They are idiots. If they are right, your computer, your TV, cell phones etc cannot work. Don't give them the time of day.

He must be right, and that explains why he's a mathematician, which means that he's applied his life to meaninglessness. Which sounds an awful lot like a midlife crisis absurdity. Or maybe like he's having a tiff with some other mathematicians who disagree with him, so he wants to put them down.

Either way, he's shooting down his own profession.
