No line actually goes to the North End. The Orange and Green lines stop at Haymarket, which is about 150 yards from the Salem Street and Hanover Street central gateways to the North End. They also stop at North Station, just 3 short blocks from the Atlantic Ave and Prince Street northern gateway, and the Blue Line stops at Aquarium, about the same distance from the Commercial Street southern gateway.

The closest stations are Haymarket and North Station, both on the green and orange lines, and Aquarium, which is on the blue line. Also Government Center is pretty close, which is on the green and blue lines (and maybe just as easy since more trains stop there - so depending on which way you're coming from, it may be just as quick to walk the extra couple minutes from there instead of waiting for another train).

None of these stations are right in the heart of the North End but are within a ten minute walk or so. And now that tue elevated highway is down it's a more pleasant walk as well (if they'd ever get done with all the construction it would be even more pleasant).

The Orange Line. Get off at North Station and it´s about a 5 minute walk.

There is no "A" line in Boston, all the subway lines are by color (Red, Green, Orange, Blue).
