"Artist" Cosimo Cavallaro, will release his newest sculpture, “My Sweet Lord,” an anatomically correct six-foot statue of the Savior made entirely of milk chocolate - in the lobby of a Manhattan hotel.

Isn’t it time we demand common decency? How about a little respect for others beliefs? I have no problem with free expression—he has the right to create any vile piece of trash he wants. But doesn’t this belong in a private gallery and NOT on public display?

And before you lefties start calling me a neo-con who is trying to stilfle ‘free speech’, (or that I have a problem with nudity in art), what if Cavallaro decide to make 6 foot chocolate anatomically correct naked Mohammed? Would there be consequences for such a disdainful display? I can guarantee you that his ‘artwork’ would get NO public attention and that he’d be called a bigot trying to incite the Muslim community—Hillary and Obama most likely leading the charge.

Don't Christians deserve the same respect?

Rochelle-would Muslims look at a chocolate Mohammed as 'art'? No--they'd think it just as much a piece of vile trash as Christians think this is. Open YOUR mind--you're not as enlightened as you think!

No if this was done to Mohamed the artist would be under a death threat along with the bomb threats that would be made to the location and to our country. Look what happened in Europe when those comic strips of Islam appeared.
This is not art it is meant to demean Christianity, only a lib would see otherwise.
It goes along with the Crucifix in urine, the dung Virgin Mary and all the other "artists" who thought it was appropriate to demean a religion and its followers. These should not be allowed in any way.

It is very sad that we live in such a close minded world that a chocolate Jesus can outrage people. Grow up and try to open your mind a little. Its art.. just ignore it if you don't like it. Also get your facts straight it is being exposed in the gallery in the hotel. If you dont like it then DO NOT go into the gallery its that simple. Maybe you should try and look at it as an art piece and not a personal attack on your religion.

You may be right about Mohammed and some would not see it as art but then again they do not turn every symbol of every holiday that has to do with their god into chocolate either. Jesus is the only one that has not been made into a chocolate candy... well till now. Also for the record I am a Christian I just dont see eveything as an attack on God.

Well, why dont you write to this Artist who seems to confilict with your views. Go to Manhatten and protest it. Don't waste your time on here asking opinonated questions that are a waste of time.

If Christians use bloody, glorified crucifixes and images of suffering Jesus' to display the pain that Christ went thru for his people, and not just some picture of a happy smiley Jesus, isnt that the same as showing your beliefs and going a little 'graphic'?

I think it's inspired. A chocolate Jesus makes perfect sense, thanks to that holiday we call EASTER. I'm amazed I've never heard of anyone doing it before.

A chocolate Mohammed would be pointless by comparison, unless they decided to have their own stupid commercial derivative of a religious holiday based on his life featuring chocolate pagan fertility symbols.

As for naked, there's a long tradition of artists, even some great ones, doing religious stuff with nudity in it, and a long tradition of bluenoses complaining about it.

You're 100% correct. It's OK to disrespect Christians, but all hell breaks loose if you say anything slightly disrespectful about Muslims. Is it not the muslims who are blowing up women and children in the name of Allah? You can't have it both ways.

So, you have a problem with a 6-foot statue of Jesus?

If you are a good Christian, you wouldn't rely upon the image. Nobody knows what Jesus looks like. Most represent him as a white man with blue eyes....which is nearly impossible considering his mother was Ethiopian.....

Don't get so hyper. Jesus loves you - I guess.
