As a class, politicians are ethically challenged. With the amount of money involved, it's inevitable that even the most ethcial person will have lapses. Sad, but true.

The worse politicians are also morally challenged. Those are the crooks, gangsters, and killers you referenced. Thank goodness most of them are not that way (at least not intentionally).

I don't think they are evil, but I do believe many of them are corrupt. I think most people enter public service hoping to effect positive change. The problem is that the system is inherently corrupt and in order to accomplish things you often must compromise your principles. As you engage in more and more of this type of behavior the lines between right and wrong become more fuzzy. This is the best argument I know for instituting term limits for all federally elected officials.

Try Misguided and Venal.

In the days gone by, the established families had sons who:-

First Son had the land.
Second Son went into the Army.
Third Son went into the Clergy.
The Runt of the litter went into Politics or Law.
Any others were either ''by-blows'' called (Fitz) or went into Art.

Observational history.

Then why don't you try to make a difference? As soon as you pass a few civics courses and graduate from high school, you can get involved in the political process.

Some are not intrinsically evil, but after they get into office, the temptations of money is overwhelming.
They do not live in the same world, and they view themselves are part of nobility---no responsibility, govt. payoffs etc. etc.

They're not evil. There are just to many people with their own opinions running countries. And they can't agree very often, and when they do, its usually not what the people want at all.

Not most of them. They're only human, and politics is the business of trading favors. How many compromises can a man make, before he himself becomes compromised?
