Time is vast. Odds are someday again... yes.
Central Europe, mainland China.. just two places that in the past saw no peace for thousands of years. Wars always going on. At the height of the Roman Empire, the middle east was a quite peaceful region (relatively).

Where do I begin?
EVER? That's a pretty long time.
Islam is no more evil than any set of delusions (religions); this is myth.
Mostly we have done things to make it LESS stable and peaceful, not more. Supporting oppressive and brutal governments, for instance. (Our favorite thing to do, apparently.)
Some day we will have done what we should have done long ago, moved away from dependence on oil.
With no profit to be made from ruining the lives of the people of the middle east, we'll stop, and they will eventually have peace there.

That region of the world will never know peace until all the factions of Islam come to a unified position. Since that has about as much chance of happening as slick Willie arguing a case before the Supreme Court (he was barred from that), it will most likely never happen.
Our "help" to that region is more from an economic than altruistic stance. Keep the area stable to keep cheap oil. Even in the best circumstances, by helping one faction, we p*** off 40 others, who then hate us more for it.

It's not been a region noted for it's peace and quiet during my lifetime and I'm nearly 74. History shows us that this has been the case for thousands of years. I don't know the reasons why it's that way and I doubt that our attempts to foist democracy on the region are going to change anything for the better. Changing their nature or lifestyle after all these years is too formidable a task for anyone other than themselves to undertake.

yes i truly do because there are and always will be humanity and a for the most part general desire to coinhabit peacefully no matter what religion. we probably wont see it in our life time, but the youngerr generation is being exposed to a promise of a better life and their opportunities for women and the society are greater than they were before. they are slowly starting to take advantage of these opportunities even in the face of terrorism. the war was wrong. completely wrong, but we need to find out how to make things better for their lives now.

It has never known peace. They have been killing each other since the beginning of recorded history. I see no reason for them to find peaceful resolution to their tribal bickering now when Violence has worked so well for them in the past.
Keep thinning the herd, there will be less monsters for the west to have to deal with.

Most people think the Middle East has always been fighting. But who have they been fighting and why? In early tribal times up to modern times (turn of the centruy up to the 30's) they often fought each other over water or grazing land, both of which were scarce and necessary commodities for life. But the countries of the Middle East also had to fight invaders who wanted to secure trade routes because the Middle East was THE trade route from one half of the world to the other half. Since WWI and the innvention of machines that use oil, industrialized nations have fought to take that product from the Middle East.
But is peace now possible? Yes it is. Is it likely? That depends on the right countries doing the right things.
We have supported Israel's aparteid government's (actually "cultural cleansing" would be more accurate) slaughter of the Palistinian people since its inception. Our purpose did not concern the Palistinians. Our concern was destabilizing the Middle East and having a secure base to operate from. (We had bases in Saudi Arabia since removed per Osama Ben Laden's request - but we could operate more freely or use Israeli forces to do our bidding in return for protection)
When the king of Iran wanted to nationalize its oil, we deposed him and installed the Shah who was a tyrant on the order of Saddam Hussein. But the Iranian people being less divided than the Iraqi people, had a revolution and deposed the Shah and installed the radical cleric Homeni . Eventually, with us out of the picture there, things calmed down in Iran and being an intelligent people, they sought to bring their country into balance until we invaded all over the Middle East. Then they became terrified of us and elected this drum beater, much like we elected our drum beater (Bush) after 9/11 because we were scared the "terrorists" were everywhere just waiting to attack us. Well, that's just how the Iranians felt about us because it was obvious to them (and the rest of the world) that we had attacked Afghanistan to install an oil pipeline that al qida wouldn't allow and Iraq and for their oil. Plus Bush had to call Iranians part of his imaginary evil empire. (What a dumbo) Iran has a lot of oil so they felt they were next in line and elected their drum beater.
So to have peace would be relatively simple - if we had the political will to actually do it. here's how:
1. Get our forces out of the Middle East altogher. Yes, there will be chaos but there will have to be chaos before Iraq will settle its OWN affairs. Same happened in Lebanon. Took a while but eventually it settled down.
2. Stop unilateral aid to Israel. Cut all aid by half (Do we really need to spend over 3 billion a year there?) And what we do give, split it evenly with Israel and Palistine. Divide that land and resources in half. Israel gets half, Palistine gets half. The city of Palistine becomes a UN protectorate - neither side gets to claim it.
The only peole who will comlplain will be the radical Israili's because the radical zionists aim is to take all the land eventually. But by doing these things, we will gain the respect and admiration of the Middle EAast and in 5 to 10 years we could go back in, not as an invading army, but as ambassadors, traders, tourists etc and do business and be welcomed. Al Qida would loose its power of recruitment, namely us, and eventually either loose all power or be holed up in a small wasteland much like North Korea with not much hope of gaining anybody's support. The Iranians dump the drum beater and elect a sensible man and things will settle down much like they have in Vietnam. Peace will reign and once the radicals in Israel have been dealt with (They will try to "stir the pot" but it would be our job to stop them) Israelies will see less violence against them and get to liking the idea of being friendly with the Palistinans much like South Africa likes the idea of being friendly with the Africans. Etc etc
The key is in our hands. We need to get out and let the people settle their own scores because you can not force democracy on a country that doens't know what it is. They have to want it and fight for it themselves.
That is how we can bring peace to the Middle East.

It's usually pretty hot there, that's bound to make people mean. What if all this time it's just been the weather, and all those people would get along famously, if they'd just move to Ireland?
