I've always been told to and drank cranberry juice if I ever had a urinary tract infection or if I felt one coming on. What is in cranberry juice that helps "clear out" any problems in the bladder?

Cranberries and blueberries reset the ph and provide enzymes that are hostile to the bacteria that make urinary tract, bladder and kidney infections.

Instead of getting these infections and using cranberry to 'clear them up' it is better to maintain the health of your urinary tract. Frequent or chronic urinary tract infections can lower your general resistance, invite more serious conditions, and generally make you an unhealthy person.

I put 1 ounce of pure, 100% cranberry juice in my orange juice every morning. I also use dried cranberries in my oatmeal, and whenever I have pancakes, I sprinkle fresh blueberries on them.

If you like cranberry sauce, you can cook some fresh cranberries with orange peel and brown sugar for 2 minutes and keep it in the refrigerator to use as a sauce for chicken or turkey. I even put it on sandwiches!

Cranberries contain natural astringents and are high in acid, which may help to kill bacteria.

However, once you HAVE a bladder infection, the WORST thing you can do is ingest juice of any kind, because the sugar in the juice just feeds the bacteria!!!

If you think you might be coming down with a UTI, there is a product by AZO called Cranberry Supplement; no sugar, but all the goodness of cranberry juice in a pill.

Cranberry helps support the integrity of the bladder walls and promotes better urinary health. If you dont like cranberry juice you can buy cranberry vitamins or herbal supplement. They sell them right in the aisle with all the other vitamins. Most of the cranberry supplements also contain vitamin C, which is also good for your immune system!

I can't tell you exactly what it is that does the trick, but I've had more than my fair share. Had to go see a urologist and he told me that better than cranberry juice, buy the cranberry extract pills, because they have 0 sugar and work much better. It works is all I can tell you.
