Considering the way the human species behaves, I think all the extraterrestrial life forms are hiding from us!

No it is not doomed to fail The existence of ET is strictly theoretical, yet it is certain to be true.
Some day we may or may not receive a signal that will herald the existence of aliens.
SETI is hope that their existence will be verified, and it is really worth while, but I think that technological societies like ours are short lived, maybe on the order of 300 or 400 years.
The nearest entity that could recognize or send a signal may be thousands of light years away.
All in all the universe would be a giant unknowing beast if us and other aliens did not exist to endow it with consciousness,we are it's eyes and ears.

Honestly speaking- yes and no.

Yes, because we still are unaware of what modes of communications to use to effectively reach out to an alien civilization that might even exist somewhere nearby, such as on Mars or any other planet/ satellite within our own solar system.

Further, considering there is indeed such a civilization somewhere, we do not know to what degree are they technologically advanced. For all we know, they could be far superior in everything as compared to us Earthlings, or, they might still be in some Stone Age. In either case, getting our message through would be impossible unless the highly advanced alien civilization was listening to our radio, satellite, TV and other signals or emissions from the Earth closely and have the necessary means to "decipher' them.

Thirdly, with thousands of planets and other possible venues that can support some life form scattered across the seeminly endless expanse of the outer space- we humans, with our latest technology as we know it today- are simply at a loss where to search for the ET. Conventional space ships dont have the range required to reach as far and nor do we have other communication techniques at the moment that can reach out across the universe.

The search for ET might succeed because of several factors too. Considering that an advanced alien civilization does exist somewhere in the universe, it is most likely they are looking to make contact with us or have already made contact in some form that would neither alarm or or make us scared.

Next, any civilization so advanced would definitely have gone through phases of evolution just like us and will try use techniques such as radio, TV or satellite communications to reach out to other planets- and perhaps we may someday stumble upon some such a signal that will connect us.

Finally, there is ample evidence to show that extra-terrestrial life does exist and there have been cases of alien abduction and UFO sightings. Ancient artefacts and cave paintings/ drawings do depict humans wearing strange gear that makes them appear like astronauts.

In recent days, the French government had the courage to put online, its entire research on unexplained aerial phenomenon (UAP) or what we call UFOs, including unsolved cases. If other governments follow suit, maybe some similarity or patterns will be found in cases of alien contacts with humans which might help us to establish some link with another civilization in some distant planet.

Personally, I do believe that aliens do exist and have been visiting the Earth time and over again. Perhaps they are unaware of whom to contact and make their presence known and how. Hence, we hear about these individual cases of alien abduction or contact.

Some governments might be concealing what they know to prevent a mass panic or fright that might eventually cause a social, health or law & order problem. Others might be keeping mum to find out military threats posed by the ET, ways to counter such threats and whether their technology can be used for their own military ambitions- based on the premise that any alien civilization would be hostile to us.

The search for ET can succeed and give positive results only if the shroud of secrecy covering it are lifted and fora that promote interaction between agencies involved and the public at large, are established.

Well, first of all, I will recomend you to read some interesting books os Asimov, and of course you can watch Carl Sagan programs, about astronomy and space, and of course, the search for extraterrestrial life.

Let me tell you that many scientists around the world, are really interested in the search of life out of our planet, because, first we need to find life out there, maybe not in Mars, but maybe in " Europe", Jupiter's moon, or maybe Titan, Saturn's moon. But of course you know about SETI, and its program of search for intelligent life, using radiotelescopes, like the ones in New Mexico. In my opinion, I think that's quite difficult, I don't know you, but I think that if there are aliens, they must be very, very far from our solar system, that their radio signals cannot be detected by our technology.
Hope I am wrong, but maybe we wil have to wait a long, but a long time, to maybe find one single evidence of intelligent life out there.

See ya

If you're looking for little green men with space ships and ray guns, yeah, there's a good chance it will fail. If you're just looking for living entities, irrefutable evidence will be found eventually. You may recall that the "Mars rocks" contained evidence that micro-organisms existed on Mars at one time.

I think it's quite likely that we will find extra-terrestrial life, but don't expect it to be like Star Trek. It will probably be microbes that we find. Even if we are to find a highly developed and intelligent species there is no guarantee that we will be able to communicate with them.

The most likely reason that it could fail is if we exterminate ourselves (with bombs, viruses, nanotech, AI, or just plain old irresponsibility) before we have a chance to detect a signal. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

There is a very good chance that we are alone. So if that is true, there is nothing to find. No "people" maybe a few microbs but nothing else.

No, it won't. Some day people may know the truth about our universe. As the research continue, we won't lose of hope.
