Oh Comet...I would say Jesus having to suffer all that humiliation so that we could understand the sacrifice He was making for our sake.
It just breaks my heart to think about all that pain and Him having to endure it.

My first thought would have been the Holocaust or Pearl Harbor, but I don't think I would really change anything, simply because these acts taught us a lot. If Pearl Harbor hadn't happened, we never would have entered WWII when we did, and who knows what the outcome would have been if we hadn't entered when we did. The Holocaut showed us what happens when you let someone dictate a nation unchecked. If we went back and changed those things, it would almost be a guarantee that they would happen sooner or later some other time.

The First World War. It led to Communists taking over Russia, and Nazis taking over Germany. This in turn led to the atrocities of Stalin and Hitler, in which tens of millions of people were murdered.

I'd go back to any Treaty signing and advocate for the Aboriginal peoples. There are injustices that happened long ago that are still having a negative impact on people today.
