Checking In
The flight information display screens, located on the main concourse, indicate the appropriate check-in times for your flight number. Flight tickets and passports/photographic I.D will be checked, "hold" baggage weighed and labelled, and a boarding card issued.
You will require your boarding card to proceed through security points and when purchasing goods from the tax and duty-free shop. You will also need your passport and boarding card when boarding the aircraft at the gate indicated.
Check-in times for Aer Arann, easyJet, Euromanx, Flybe, Ryanair, VLM and Wizz Air range from 2hrs to 40 mins before departure. Other airlines may vary so check with them directly or contact your Travel Agent before your departure date.
Check-in, ticket sales and reservation desks for all scheduled and charter services are all centrally located on the main concourse. Flight information is displayed throughout the terminal building on monitors.

My son flew to Spain last week from JLA he arrived 3hours before. On the way back from Malaga he arrived 4 hours to check in, only to find Easy jet had brought forward the flight by 3 hours and it had gone. My son with 30 other passengers had to sleep on the floor, waiting for another flight to Liverpool 13 hours later.
Customer care, once again Easy jet didn't want to know. Check your flight times to and from this airport very careful, or travel with a airbag just to be safe.

I went to gran canaria, via newcastle airport, it was 3 hours before the flight that I had to be there. So I will assume that its the same, because its likely stated to be this way because of safety rules put in place after the terror attacks.
