Just because you see other girls doing this does not mean it is acceptable. In general, it is NEVER acceptable to be barefoot at work.

Who is this girl that she feels she can tell you what to wear or not to wear at your own desk? If your boss has no problem with it then she should mind her own business. Whether your boss will mind, will probably depend on the kind of customer contact you have and all. But there's really no reason not to go barefoot at the office unless your feet smell bad (and NO, feet do NOT necessarily smell, it's not the sweat itself that smells but the stuff bacteria produce when breaking down sweat in anaerobe circumstances). If there's no direct customer contact then it shouldn't matter so much what you're wearing, and this girl shouldn't be so sensitive about it.
I've been barefoot for ten years, including my job interviews... was hired each time. Now I have a job where I am a history guide and wear period clothing, but before that I worked for an internet help desk. Barefoot. It's not like we took calls through a web cam, what I wore or didn't wear on my feet never came up on any help desk call with a customer.

RE:
I go barefoot at my desk at work, another girl thinks this is unprofessional. Girls, barefoot at your desk OK?
When I am sitting at my desk I take my shoes off because my feet sometimes sweat in pumps and I hate shoes in the first place. One other girl in my office thinks it not professional but I see lots of girls doing it. What do you think? I am sick of listening to her, I tell her she is wrong all...

I know in my dad's time going barefoot was totally a boy thing. Like all the boys were always barefoot even to school, but if a girl went barefoot she'd be a tomboy, so boys expected girls to wear shoes even though they didn't wear any themselves. I used to be really old fashioned and think that way too. I always wanted to be with barefoot boys when I was dating, even though I never went barefoot myself. I'm always barefoot now, though, and the truth is today there are more girls going barefoot than boys. I think most boys either like it or don't care.

This is sort of a hard one. In truth it is unprofessional. But, I would say it depends on what kind of a business you work in. Every sort of business has a sort of dress code. If you work in a bank atmosphere or a law office, it is certainly not acceptable. If you work in a publishing or advertising office it is much more acceptable. As you can see it all depends on the atmosphere. Do other women in the area not wear their shoes? Do you walk around without your shoes? Are your feet very noticeable? I know that when I worked in advertising most of the women didn't wear shoes, we all walked around barefooted and nobody cared, but it was an artistic atmosphere, so it was acceptable. I did work in a library for awhile and there nobody would dream of taking off their shoes no matter what.
I hope you understand what I am trying to get at. It's all in the situatiion of where you work as to whether it is correct or not, there is no set rule. But above all, tell this other person to mind her own business. If she isn't the office manager, it is not her place to go around and give advice to you or anyone else on how they are attired. If your boss makes a comment, then it is another matter completely.

I like it - as I enjoy being barefoot myself. Some people like it, some don't. So you will always get different reactions (most are indifferent about it, by the way). The conclusion? Go barefoot whenever you like. There will always be some who hate you for it, but also some who love you for it. And a lot who just shrug because after all it doesn't make you all that different whether you wear shoes or not.

I go barefoot a lot at my desk when I am just sitting there, if I have to get up for any reason I always put my shoes back on. No can even see my feet at my desk so as long as no one can really tell I don't worry about it.

People by nature hate wearing shoes. People shouldn't be worried if someone has their shoes on or not. Even for that LONG 7 step walk to the printer to grab a file - who cares? Now if you're running to the break room and you're taking the elevator that might be different.
Even if a job has a "shoes on at all times even when you sit at your desk" rule, people won't keep them on. It's just human nature, since it is the only part of the body that can hurt by wearing it - and yet people have all these little intricacies about it.
Go ahead and bare your feet if you choose. Millions - and possibly billions do it worldwide.

I do the same thing at my job. But I have a desk where you can't tell if I'm wearing shoes unless you actually come up behind me and bend down and look under. As long as your feet don't smell and you aren't walking around the office barefoot I don't see a problem with it. I also keep a pair of flats under my desk so that if I need to run out and don't want to wear my stilletos I can still look professional with shoes.

First question is: who sees your feet?
Second question: what is your profession?
Third question: what is the dress code?
I work in a VERY casual office with four people. I am the office manager and I wear flip flops to work almost every day. We're a computer software company with a business-casual dress code, which basically means no jeans on days when important people will be visiting.
Can you get around the pumps thing? Can you wear sandals? Flats? Open-toed shoes?
Sounds like your co-worker has a foot fetish if she is checking out your tootsies while you're at your desk... Can you turn your desk around so no one can see your feet?
As long as you wera your shoes around the other parts of the office, no one should be concerned about you not wearing them at your desk, provided it is not a safety hazard (factory work?!?!) or liable to get you in trouble with your boss.
Go girl, kick off your shoes!!!
