Ol' Roy is sh!t food anyways! Sorry, I'm a veterinarian and would never feed my animals or recommend feeding to any animal. Ol' Roy has a lot of fillers in it, so when it seems like your dog is eating less and getting full but still losing weight- that is the reason. Sam Walton probably thought this up so you would feed your dog more often and run through bags of food just trying to keep your dogs weight up.
And to the answer above that said animals will get sick if they are kept on the same food for a long time. Where the heck did you hear that crap? While some dogs may get bored with the same food- I've never seen or heard of any dogs getting sick off of being on the same dog food for a long time. As long as the food has a good nutrition content and is healthy for your pet, then your animal should not be getting sick.
In most veterinarians opinions Ol' Roy doesn't meet any dogs nutrition requirements, it's a cheap feed. I'd suggest moving your dog to a healthier dry food that is made for his size and age.

The recall was expanded on Friday, March 30, 2007. However, as of today, (Saturday, 3-31-07) only one dry food has been recalled, Hill's brand.
My rottie got extremely ill on Feb. 1, after eating part of a 20 lb. bag of Old Roy Gourmet Balance dry dog food over a few days time. He stayed in the hospital for 7 days before we had to put him down. He was vomiting severely, had no appetite, drinking lots of water. However, the vet said his blood work was all perfectly normal. After the 7th day, we had him put down. He wasn't getting any better, and our bill had already run over what we could really afford . He had also developed pneumonia while in the hospital, from aspirating vomitus.
To the person who said there was no recall on Old Roy products, you are incorrect. Menu Foods has recalled cans and pouches of Old Roy dog foods. As for the allegation that eating the same food over a long period of time can make a dog sick, that is simply not true.
To the person who posed the original question: What "type" of Old Roy do you feed your dogs? I fed mine the Gourmet Balance. Would you be willing to share your bag code, via e-mail perhaps?
Please take your sick pets to the vet, if you can afford it, before they get any worse. And stop feeding Old Roy.

There has been no recall on dry dog/cat food. Plus Old Roy Dog Food is not even on the recall list. Try changing your dogs food every now and then. If you keep feeding them the same food over and over and over they will get sick from the same food. Switch to Purina. That is what I give my 2 dogs. Plus Old Roy isn't very good for dos/animals. Sorry if you have a pet loss. My sympathy to you. I had a pet loss on May 16th 2006. A rabbit that I had had forever.

Old Roy has not, so far, been included in the recall. That being said, I have worked as a Veterinary Technician for years and have a B.S. in Biology. Please don't feed your pets Old Roy. I understand that the premium diets are expensive, but there are less expensive diets that are still much, much healthier for your dog. If you have to get your food at WalMart, stick to Iams or Purina One. Expecting your dog to be healthy on Old Roy is like expecting your kids to be healthy on a diet of cotton candy.

You know what? I have been feeding my dogs Old Roy and recently my Shih tzu and weener-mut has lost their appetite all together. I tried to give them some table-scraps as well and they won't eat them and they aren't drinking any water as well. Normally, they wolf down everything they get. This isn't NORMAL...I am stopping with the Old Roy dry food all together.

Strange that the vet should say not to feed a dog Ol' Roy because my brothers vet told him to fid it to his dogs.
He said it was not only just as good but BETTER then the more costly foods.
Every dog we have ever had has been fed Ol' Roy, and we have one dog that is over 10 years old and she is very healthy.

No as far as what i read it was only on the wet food packets. I feed old roy as well so I wanted to make sure. But the article on the recal on georgias dept of agriculture website showed only the small wet food packets being affected.

I understand where you get that ol roy is crap. My dog just got sick last thursday and she died today on me.. she was eating ol'roy high performance. she has for the last 7 months and have had no problems with it. Since she was born and they thought it was for worms so they treated her for the worms and when she died then they figured out that it was from the dog food. Great huh? I miss her so much. she was my second kid. My son (who is 2) crys and askes for "Dee Dee" (my dogs name) I wish that they would have put ol roy on there sooner.

I haven't heard of the dry food being on recall. That's what I feed my rottweiler, it's the only thing he will eat. He hasn't got sick from it so far.
