constant re-seeding every year should do the trick. Cover with hay and water well.

When we moved into our new house the lawn was patchy and uneven. We spread seed over the grass (too fill in the holes) and used miracle grow on it when we watered it. No pesticides though. Too bad for the environment. It looks much better and id fuller but the grass seed we peppered through the grass wasn't exactly the same kind of grass and so we have some patches where the grass is a different green than the rest. The fertilizer really made the grass green and lush...and grow fast. We had to mow a lot more often! I hope this might help

First kill off the moss by applying iron sulphate, then rake out the dead moss, fork over any bare patches and put down some lawn seed cove this with clear plastic and stand back to watch it grow.
While waiting for the grass to grow you need to go over the rest of your lawn with a fork, push the fork in about 3 ins and press on the handle to lift the turf slightly, this will let in air and water so as to make a great lawn.

If you have kids, i'd say remove the patches of moss and just repair the whole area. Their going to end up ruining your lawn by the first year. I had the same problem with my lawn. More than half of it was covered by moss, crabgrass and clovers. I ended up spraying the whole lawn with Roundup to kill EVERYTHING. I than raked up the dead grass and weeds and I added some fresh topsoil, lime and fertilizer. I planted the seeds and to this day, my grass seems to be super healthy. If you have moss, it could be a sign of acidic soil or not enough sunlight. Try incorporating lime into the soil, and use a grass that will thrive without too much sunlight.

You are joking, right !!!,
These are kids we are talking about, they want to slide tackle, dive, and on and on.
Trust me on this one, if you put down toughened grass or sow football pitch standard grass, I can guarantee you that within 1 DAY, it will be no more, and you will end up shouting and cursing because the kids have 'spoiled' your perfect pitch. Oh, and as they get older it gets worse, so, forget about having Wembley or whatever in your backyard, leave it go to mud (standard keeper line apparently), as mine have done over the last 20 years.....yes the eldest still brings his mates around for a kick about..,
Enjoy your children for as long as you can, have a great front garden for all to see, and when the kids are grown and gone, then you can have a great lawn.

Get a gardener, it depends on the type of grass you have and how much wear and tear the lawn gets. Drainage is also very important. I would get some information from a good gardener or you could try a company like Green Thumb.

To get a suitable backyard you'd be wanting to fully get rid of the present backyard - get rid of each and each of the turf, factor the backyard starting up position thoroughly with fantastic sand an compost. Roll the realm as flat as achieveable. purchase the perfect high quality turf you'll come across and lay it. in case you purchase the right turf you'll finally end up with a backyard searching some thing like a bowling eco-friendly. there's a form of Canadian grass that will advance in shady places, no longer efficient of that is call yet seem it up and attempt it. imagine it can be called Canadian timber grass or some thing.

hello, firstly do you have a female dog, as dog urine will destroy grass. secondly moss indicates that your lawn is too wet, so the drainage is probably bad, so try putting some sand down to absorb moisture, then get a hard wearing grass, seed or turf, with a second name of stolonifera as this will put out stolons much like a spider plant does, and spread itself good luck.

Get yourself down to Leeds United football stadium and dig up a nice patch - they won't mind as they don't use it anymore (or shouldn't anyway). You'll even have the lines painted on ready for a little kick around

Go to your local home and garden center and explain your plight, if they are worth their salt, they will be able to tell you what is best for your area.
Remember when it comes to weeds and insects what your neighbor does affects your lawn. For example; if you treat your lawn for fleas etc and your neighbor doesn't then you have to work twice as hard to maintain.
Hope this helps
