THEY ARE RIGHT WITH ANY OTHER GREAT TEAM.
THE TEAMS:
1965 CELTICS
1967 SIXERS
1972 LAKERS
1983 SIXERS
1984 CELTICS
1985 LAKERS
1996 BULLS - OVERRATED - WEAK LEAGUE
I PUT THEM IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER

The 86 Celtics were the best single season team of the 80s... Their front line was the greatest in NBA history, with Bird, Parrish, McHale and a (for once) healthy Bill Walton.
The 86 Celtics would have beaten the 83 Sixers in a best of seven series.
The 87 Lakers were the best of the Laker teams. They would have been better equiped to physically battle the 83 Sixers, having added Mychal Thompson as a backup center and power forward.
The 83 Sixers swept the Lakers in the finals... they probably would have beaten even a healthy Laker team that year, but with Worthy, Norm Nixon and Bob McAdoo injured, the Lakers had no chance (Worthy had broken his leg in an earlier playoff round against Phoenix, injuring it on a follow-up-slam). The Lakers were in each of the 4 finals games, and established double-digit 2nd half leads in each game...but they lacked the depth they needed to finish any of the games off.
Also, the '67 76ers and '72 Lakers could have beaten the 83 Sixers, because Wilt would have destroyed Moses Malone.

I would have to agree with Tweety. The 86 Celtics were the greatest single season team in history.
The 83 Sixers were a tremendous team, however, I would probably put them third, behind the 86 Celts and 87 Lakers of teams of the 1980's. I'd also put the 67 Philly team and the 72 Lakers ahead of them.
The 83 Sixers would have mopped the floor with ANY of the 1990's Bulls championship teams.

They were absolutely a great team and there've been very few teams of that caliber since. Arguably one of Jordan's Bulls teams could be put in that category, especially 95-96. 72-10 record? Wow. Possibly even one of the Lakers teams earlier this decade. The lineup on the 76ers that year was just plain scary though, would love to see how it'd stack up against some of these other teams.

No i'm sorry but the best single season team ever would have to be the 1984 Celtics when it was Larry Bird, McHale, Parrish, Walton, Dennis Johson, and also with Danny Ainge and many more they tore through the season and the post season to win the Championship.

Fo', Fi', Fo'. In my opinion, they are the best single season team ever. Unfortunately, they don't approach the Bulls of the '90s or the Celtics of the '60s in terms of longevity, but for the one season, they were unstoppable.
Big Mo, Little Mo, The Docter, Andrew Toney, and Iavaroni, no baloney, Sixers all the way!

For me yes. That' my all time favorite team, however there were some very good teams. The Lakers, and Celtics have had some squads that have to be mentioned, as well as the Bulls.

They were good, but the Dr. was getting old....Moses I think had a MVP year........but the Jordan Bulls had a better team...and the 84 Celtics were better too.....and the 85 Lakers were also better.....
And by the way Dr. J had no outside shot.......Dominque Wilkins was a better offensive player than Dr. J.....Sometimes we overhype players for the great things they have done like Dr. J cupping the ball and dunking it.....he also wasn't the best free throw shooter....

They were good but not even the best 76ers team.. the 1967 or 68 sixers would have cleaned their clock.
