1. Study Aerospace / Astrophysics/ Aeronautical Engg in best college[IIA].
2. Do Ph.d .
3. Go for pilot training
4. Join in NASA/ISRO as space scientist/space researcher [its ur wish]
5. Break some records as test pilot [like Sunita williams] or by doing some research in the field which u r interested.
6. Ur body, mind, behaviour, speech everything should be perfect, hence it will be easy to select u as an astronaut [b'coz once Yuri gagarin has been selected by his behaviour while training]
7. U should not think anything than that of Universe and Space. U should be fully devoted to Astronomy.

Well more than just study physics, EE at top schools (e.g. MIT, Stanford) and exceed in the Air Force. The most difficult thing is to get admitted to the NASA program. Even then, there are lots of astronauts who scrub out, are rejected for reasons beyond their control, or don't get to fly a space vehicle even after being trained. I would guess that there are 100000+ good applicant each year.
