Biology question- Suppose that a strand of DNA has the base sequence ATT-CCG. What is the base sequence of the complementary strand? I couldn't find this anywhere in my book.

Each type of base on one strand forms a bond with just one type of base on the other strand. This is called complementary base pairing. Here, purines form hydrogen bonds to pyrimidines, with A bonding only to T, and C bonding only to G. This arrangement of two nucleotides joined together across the double helix is called a base pair.

So with this you can easily figure out what the answer is

Remember that DNA for most organisms is double stranded and has polarity. This means that a complementary strand will be 'base-paired' with its partner in the reverse direction (antiparallel relationship). If your sequence is 5'-ATTCCG-3' then just pair the sequence with its reverse complement (The 5-prime and 3-prime ends suggest the polarity). The base-pairing relationship is A-T and C-G. So for your example, the correct answer would be :

5'-ATTCCG-3'
3'-TAAGGC-5'

This may be more complicated of an answer than you asked, but hope it helps! You should be able to base-pair any sequence you have now.

Just remember that each nucleotide has a complementary nucleotide. A and T are complementary and C and G are complementary.

for the sequence A_T_T the complement would be T_A_A.

Good luck!

TAA-GGC since dna does not have the codon U that is complementary to A in rna.

A's pair with T's
G's pair with C's

I think it is TTA-GGC because the DNA comes in a double helix structure and those 4 bases complement each other in DNA.

Homework is a discomfort interior the ***, even nevertheless that's properly worth it and the implications of no longer doing it are low grades, low self-properly worth, hating college, indignant mom and father, and awkwardness around instructors. the final element to do is do in simple terms the homework. do no longer attempt to think of, "I shouldn't..." or doubt your self - do in simple terms it! you need to be clever approximately it, do the homework that's maximum mandatory first, bypass away the little issues for final, take commonly used breaks, no ingesting jointly as working as that's distracting, NO television till you're thoroughly executed.

Remember:
A-T
G-C

your strand.......: ATT-CCG
complementary: TAA-GGC

You should check your biology textbook's index for Chargaff's rule.
A->T and C->G
TAA-GGC
