I've actually never seen sparrows eating flowers and I watch birds all the time. However, if by some chance they are actually eating the flowers and not the bugs that are visiting the flowers, there isn't much you can do about it. Try a squirt gun, they probably wouldn't hang around long if you squirted them with some water.

Plant more flowers (for the birds)
What are you going to do with the flowers anyway, look at them?
Get enjoyment out of the fact that you have actually found a sustainable source of food for the sparrows !.

Rather than harm the birds and save your flowers put those little rubber snakes in your flower bed. Birds hate snakes.........Or get one of those plastic owls and set it up, birds hate owls because owls eat birds etc.
Problem solved nothing injured or harmed. P.S. birds get hungry how about some seed. They can hang around your yard and eat the bugs off your flowers. All of these methods cause no harm to any living creature.
Also, if you net them what do you do after that? Kill them?

The best way to prevent a bird from eating your plants is to net them. Seeing as how your plants are for decoration, this isn't what you would want to do. You can give them something like a bird feeder, but that also wouldn't guarantee that they would stop since your flowers are much tastier. I believe that there is a power that you can put on them that will make them smell and taste bad to the birds. I can't think of the name of it right now... i'm sorry. Check with your local hardware store and they may be able to help you. Good luck!

I might try the owl thing. My problem is they eat the blossom buds off my apple tree, but I hang ribbons in the tree and that deters them - they don't like any kind of change. Some inconspicuous ornament might be enough to put them off.
