Are we talking about your current state right now or your general state of being?

I would say that if you are constantly tired, you need, stupidly simple as it sounds, to get more sleep at nights.

If you are stressed out about something in your life, you may not be able to sleep. Find a destressing activity (exercise / yoga) to relax and get your mind off whatever is giving you the aggravation. Also, avoid caffeine and other stimulants for several hours before going to bed

On the other hand, if you need to stay awake for something specific and you're very tired, then try lots of coffee or another caffeine source (Red Bull, Relentless) and something sugary to give you some instant energy (well, within a few minutes anyway)

Hope that helps.

Try to avoid too much caffeine - it'll keep you awake for a while but sleep can only be denied for so long. Look after yourself. Drinking plenty of water and keeping your body moving will help keep you awake. Eat fruit and protein rather than stodgy food, and fresh juice is also good.

In the shorter term, ie if you're dozing off in a meeting for instance, there's a reflexology trick you can do which will work for a minute or two - with your fingers, firmly massage the point where your neck joins your back, then run them swiftly and firmly up to the base of the skull - this will give you a short period of wakefulness to get you through to the next caffeine hit or your bed!

Also worth trying is the sugar high, if you're absolutely desperate - Haribo's Tangfastics will wake you and your tastebuds up!

If you really do need caffeine though, try chocolate coated coffee beans - Mmmm...

You need to make sure you get sleep at night, you should try to fall asleep and stay asleep between the hours of 10.00pm and 2.00am, but 8 hrs is what you need.. This is when the body is at it's most restful and the body is rejuvenating for the next day. Exercise more, if you don't start doing it, exercise releases endorphins and endorphins give you energy and make you happy. Drink more water, water refuels, is life giving, is natural energy. Ever wonder why a person feels refreshed after drinking a glass of pure water? Do these cleanses. Colon cleanse, parasite cleanse, candida cleanse, liver/gallbladder cleanse, kidney cleanse, heavy metal cleanse, candida cleanse. If you have never cleansed your body before your body has built up years of toxins and is fighting desperately to get them out with a sluggish liver, an overworked kidney and an irritable digestive tract, so clean your pipes out. The result of toxicity in the body is acid reflux, bloating, constipation, anxiety, stress, acne resulting from hormonal imbalance, insomnia, colon cancer, stomach cancer, migraines, sinusitis etc. When these symptoms occur your body is actually begging you to clean it.

Caffeine, caffeine, stretching, brief exercise ( three sets of 50 jumping jacks or 10 push ups?). Taking a walk also helps. Avoid eating large meals as that would make you even more sleepy. Meals in small portions is good for you.

Get enough sleep during the time you have to rest. And maybe get a cup of coffee before you go to work/school/whatever.
