I think it's a complicated issue. In today's world, marriage is done so often for all the wrong reasons. I believe that divorce is the bane of society, and that as long as there is rampant divorce, society can't function correctly. When I talk to gay couples about their relationship habits and the reasons they want to get married, it's usually all the wrong reasons and they usually change primary partners fequently. This leads me to believe that having gay marriage would add to the divorce rate.

Like I said, I'm against divorce, so if someone pork-rolled a no-divorce law with a gay marriage law, I'd vote for it.... but I don't think that would ever happen. I think that gay couples (in general) want short-term marriages.

Civil unions have never been adiquately defined, in my opinion. Is it just a temporary marriage? I mean, I could go for that: "John and Jill will be married for legal purposes from January 12, 2009 until January 18, 2009" Heck yeah! Then those people who really aren't destined for marriage (whether gay, straight, whatever) will have something to do without having the implied "so long as we both shall live." It will be predefined as short term.

It is as acceptable to be gay as it is to be human. There is no choice, you are born the way you are born.
Gay people love, fall in love, commit, and are human so why not allow marriage. Fact is they couldn't mess it up any more than straight people have been doing for centuries.
I think a civil union is the closest thing gay people have to marriage right now. I also think more straight couples should consider it instead of a marriage they are not going to truly commit to.

You can be anything you want to be. Who you choose to sleep with doesn't concern me in the least. A marriage or civil union should be allowed, at least within the legal system. A marriage is a legal contract, that's why it takes a court to get a divorce. A church should have the right to deny someone a marriage, but not the government.

I think it's ok for a person to be gay. Who am I to judge or care about who someone sleeps with? I'm all for gay marriage or civil unions.

It's ok to be gay, it's not something you can help. Personally I don't see a problem with gay marriage because it doesn't concern me any more than a straight marriage, but maybe we should take this a little slow. People can't help it if it goes against their morals. It was just the way they were raised.

I'M ALL FOR IT!!! I truly believe that each person is allowed and SHOULD be happy. If being with someone of the same sex makes you happy, then YOU SHOULD BE WITH SOMEONE OF THE SAME SEX! There shouldnt be any rules holding you back on this. Ya know... This world is so strange, so many people are against gay marriage because of the bible, yet we kind of promote divorce. Its SOOO MUCH cheaper to get divorced than it is to get marriage councelling! I dont know, Im just one of many(i hope) that believes we should just be happy people. We dont get to live very long, why should anyone suffer or be unhappy?

As a joke I once heard..."I think Gay people should be allowed to get married...they should be able to be as miserable as the rest of us" Not sure who said it but it made me laugh. I am for gay marriage, btw, and feel that you are who you are and there's nothing wrong with that! Some people are just simply afraid of new things and think old school, and that's their perogative. Things DO and will change and change can be good. Of all the relationships I've seen, some gay friends of mine are the one's still together. I say if one is happy then so be it!

Happily married man (yes to a woman) here.

In my opinion, anyone who has a problem with gay/lesbian people have major insecurities of their own...who cares what people do in their own bedrooms anyway?!? Straight people have some crazy sex too...some of it isn't that different than what gay people do...if you know what i mean...I don't see a big deal here...let people be!!!

Our best friend is gay...I think everyone should have a gay friend or two...actually everyone probably already does...they just don't know it yet...

Keep up the good fight gay/lesbian/transgendered people!!!

You have rights too!!!

THIS IS AMERICA!!! NOT THE MIDDLE EAST!!!
