I have several large plants that sustained some winter damage (ie:browning , frost-burnt foliage) but appear to be healthy, with lots of green growth, but on long, woody stems. These plants are literally 2-3 feet in diameter and have overgrown their space. Should I cut all the foliage off to get back to a digable root ball? If I do, will I lose this year's blooms? Or can I take the individual long stems, cut them off and re-plant them as they are? Please Help! Thanks!

You will possibly loose all of this year's blooms. It will be better in the long run, but you'll loose all of this year's blooms. You can let them do what they want this spring and summer, then cut them back and move them in the fall.

Another possiblity is that your plant will take this to mean that it needs to bloom more. If you prematurely take off leaves and blooms they create more so that they can be sure to seed properly. (This is known as deadheading your plants) This could possibly cause them to overgrow more.

It really just depends on whether or not you are cutting off more blooms or folaige. No matter what it should probably be done. It's just a matter of when you decide to do it. Good luck!
