Just tell him, you will make him very happy.
No offense, but the only reason he is your friend is because he likes you in that way. He has always wanted to be more than just a friend, otherwise you wouldn't be friends in the first place.

"I love you" usually works for me. Do it over dinner or at the end of a date. But make sure that you look into his eyes when you say it, but you have to be "sure".
