I need to know briefly evolutional path of lungs and gills,and what might have developed from them,if you have pictures that is even better thanks

Hi. Both were required to extract oxygen from the surrounding environment. Water flowing over gills did not work for animals trapped in a tidal pool because more surface area is required. Gills with more convoluted shapes would have a survival advantage and eventually evolved into primitive lungs. These would get more efficient as time went by. the foetus of many creatures, mamalian, avian, and amphibian, all resemble each other so closely that it can be very difficult to determine what it is at an early stage. the lungs of a human arise from a germ layer known as the mesoderm. interestingly, the part of an embryo that develops into the ears of a human, is the part that gives rise to the gills of fish.
