Being the mother of an 8 year old I usually spend a ton of money with clothes shoes and usually silly stuff that he really doesnt need and when it comes to Easter-the day of the year that all mom's go out and buy there kids enourmous baskets that the kids don't need and expensive clothes that are just for show...
I have started to realx on Easter. I used to just go crazy because I wanted my child to have the cutest suit on and look the best but then I realized it wasn't a competetion and I needed to stop it.
I decided that we would give the money that I would ordinarily spend on Easter Outfits to charity... We had enough clothes and shoes and didn't need the baskets with the candy that no one would ever eat in it!
It's just pointless to me.. I think I would spend about 40 for a suit, 40 for shoes and he had to have new socks even though he had a ton of black ones in the drawer... He had to have a fresh cut-hair cut that is 10 and then he needed a basket 25. So I was really out of a ton of money that I really didn't have...

I think spending for Easter has gotten way out of hand for some families. It urks me to walk into the stores at Easter to see these HUGE baskets filled with all sorts of things and these giant bunnies, all displayed at kids' eye levels and carefully marketed so that each parent feels guilted into buying their child the biggest and most expensive Easter basket.Yet another way for me to be made to feel like less of a parent if I don't provide this for my child or yet another question for my child to ask why jimmy next door got the big basket while my kids got the small bunny because we either could not afford it or just did not want to spoil our children. This leaves my childi feeling like the easter bunny loves Jimmy next door more. Don't get me wrong...I look forward to chocolate egg hunts and the small surprizes from the so called Easter bunny as well as colouring eggs but the holiday has become way too comercial. This holiday is meant to celebrate that Jesus Christ was torchered and died for the forgiveness of our sins and then rose again to ascend into heaven.Kids now adays are getting very greedy and its not only the fault of the comercial vendors but even more so, our fault as parents for giving in to it to turn these holidays into buying frenzies.Easter does not have to be a second Christmas. In fact,my oppinion here apply to Christmas as well. The only gift it should really be about is the gift of salvation because God loved us enough to come to earth in the human form of Jesus and die for us.Many children don't even know that is what Easter is really about. That is so sad to me.Even for those that do not believe in God or Christ, that does not change the fact that the holiday has become about keeping up with the Joneses and that is wrong. For those that will argue my points based on spiritual beliefs...I am amazed at how many non believers want so much to not have prayer in schools or parlament etc...but they still want to celebrate our spiritual holidays and take the day off work and get all the benefits. You don't see me as a Christian celebration Hanuka or Ramadan because I want another holiday and feel it is my right to have that day because others do. Even if I did feel that..I would never get away with it. Let's go back to small gestures for Easter and teaching our kids about kindness and the love of Christ as the true meaning for the day.

some chocolate, some painted eggs, and maybe a stuffed toy or two, but it really depends how old the child is, todlers seem to get more from the easter bunny then again from parrents as well, it's really up to your own judgement and how much you normally spend on your children

Keep it traditional. Paint hard-boiled eggs together. Hide chocolate eggs and other small treats in the garden/front yard/porch/hallway, according to geography and meteorology, for them to find. Special Easter breakfast and dinner. Maybe a movie, too.
Keep the big spending for Christmas. So they have something to look forward to. ;-)

i guess it depends. we've had the opportunity to make up baskets that were pricey, yet, filled with things that were needed at the time. one year my son started soccer and we couldn't afford to get all the soccer equipment and do an easter basket, so we made a really fun basket out of the soccer stuff, adding some candy and it was wonderful. but, my kids mostly like the traditional easter basket full of candy, and thankfully they don't even want all chocolate which tends to be more expensive.
guess it's all up to you and to your creativity!?
blessings!!!

Kids don't need expensive stuff. Kids' candy costs very little, and I throw in a few cheap plastic toys. I reuse our handmade Easter baskets, so all in all it's less than $10 per kid every year with plenty to enjoy.
