Bolt, I understand what you're saying, problem is those who are against the war don't. They think that if we pull out everything will go back to how it was. Then if a civil war erputs in Iraq they will blame Bush (not congress, the democrats, or liberals who wanted out). Its a win/win situation for them, but they don't understand that this will not stop the terrorists who hate our guts and want us dead. They will continue to preach anti-US propoganda, like they did before Bush became president, like they did under Clinton.
I was never for the war in Iraq, the only person in my work place at the time who thought the evidence by the intelligence communities was weak. However now that we're there, we need to stay until the job is done and support our troops over there.
I salute the soldiers over there and hope you all return safely when the job is done. That way you won't have to fight another war because we pulled out too early.

I'm a vet, too, but the troops you mention are confusing "support the troops by bringing them home" with a stance against the troops. Anti-war IS NOT anti-troops. Anti-war is I WANT MY MILITARY SON HOME, SAFE AND ALIVE. We all support the troops and want them home!! I still see "W - the President" stickers on many cars of veterans. Bush has cut vet's benefits, disallowed photos of flag-draped coffins of those KIA and refused to supply adequate body-armor to the troops. He HATES veterans. He got into the Guard to escape Active Duty, and Cheney took 5 deferments during Vietnam, stating to to the Washington Post that he had sought his deferments because "I had other priorities in the 60's than military service." Oh, so 58,000+ KIA Vietnam vets didn't have priorities for their lives? How can today's vets stand behind such hypocritical, anti-military cowards?
Support the troops by bringing them home. We have 3,000+ U.S. dead ... for what, really? What have we gained? We get attacked on 9/11 by an Afghani-based Al Quada, so we respond by sending a small continent of troops to Afghanistan ... but, send most to Iraq to ensure they can have free elections. Wha??? What happened to the real mission? We're in Iraq because Bush wanted to get back at Saddam for his daddy's unrequited love to redeem themselves from the failure to get Saddam in 1991. This is a farce and we should stay out of Middle Eastern affairs, altogether. We didn't take the hint with the Beirut bombings in '83, Khobar Towers, USS Cole, etc.. 9/11 would've never happened had we stayed out of Middle Eastern affairs. Unfortunately, the bottom line is always about oil and always will be.
As for the terrorists having "hope" -- they always will, regardless of what America thinks. They are insane fanatics dead-set on their agenda. A suicide bomber doesn't give a rat's *** about what America thinks, good/bad/otherwise.
You cannot eliminate terrorism. You CAN stay out of terrorist zones. Let them kill each other while we secure our borders and reinforce our NATO alliances.
Many who are for Bush and the war have never, nor will they ever serve in the military. If this is so important to Bush, why aren't Bush's daughters serving on the fronts lines?? Why isn't Bush himself (as "Commander in Chief") on the front lines? Hey, we have a cabinet, senate and a V.P., so the "leadership" (cough!) is here. Keep the President on the front lines until he decides the "mission" is over. That should be an Amendment to the Constitution.

Well said but they don't care about the troops, all they care about is protesting the government. That can be seen when they burned the soldier in effigy. I know it wasn't all of them that did it but the ones that didn't feel that way could have done something about the ones that did do it. Then again, that's the whole point why they haven't joined the military in the first place, they are cowards.

You're a vet and you don't know that "troops" is not the correct term for "soldiers." A troop is a group, just saying.

Just because war as been declared doesn't mean we should give unconditional support to the war effort. Despite how you see it, there is a difference between caring for the welfare of the troops and caring about whether we should be at war or not. The predicament you are trying to put the American people in is unfair. You should never forget that you are serving the United States. If we decide that we don't want that service and you take it the wrong way that's due to your own wrong conclusions.

i oppose the war and have from the very beginning and i agree with what you are saying. when and how will this war ever end though? is it safe to assume we are going to need to be a serious presence in the middle east for at least several more generations? can we stop the war but at the same time keep the country fortified?
i think the term "war on terror" is a mistake, its impossible, it will be forever.

The CITIZENS decide where and for how long a war is fought. PERIOD.
This is a Democracy, not a military dictatorship. The American people are overwhelmingly against continuing the war. Our elected representatives in Congress, if they don't wimp out, are getting ready to pull the plug on the funding. If that happens, it's over, and that's the way a Democracy should work.
I appreciate greatly your service, but don't tell me I have blood on my hands for exercising my rights as an American citizen.
The military does not have the right to continue a war against the wishes of the people.

They really could care less... Other wise they would not be burning American soldiers uniforms in effigy while wearing masks and burning American flags.... The political correct statement learned by these puppets is ' just say you support the soldiers but not the war, then those horrible supporters can't say anything".... Good luck and God Bless.
