If people had a chance to stop cancer they would. The internet destroys lives. I guess a better way to say would be to stop the selling of alcohol and tobacco. It's ruining peoples lives. But people continue to use it. If we could stop it how much better would our lives be?

Nothing is bad it is our usage. Example, a knife in the hand of a doctor could be used for operation, a gun in the hand of a Police could be used to stop a thief Opium in the hand of a doctor could be used for cure. Does these all should be stopped.

If you think Internet is ruining people's live then what about Television and video? Why not you think that Internet is a way I use for learning, contacting people. I can read a book free of cost. But if I started using it for porno site or sending virus mail it is not because of Internet is bad it because what it is being used. It is usage.

You better think in positive way. You could use parental control if you like to control Internet.

well iv'e had a debate over this before.

you know the internet is what you make of it. I use it to find out information i might never know if it were not for the internet. there are some odd ball questions you can find a answer for.

I use it to shop for really unique things. like oh a 1976 simon says for my wife. she grew up with simon and always loved it.

I also use it to keep in touch with my family and play video games.

The computer and the internet is a tool. just like a skill saw. you can go out and build something with the saw. or you can cut someones mail box down with it. It's not the tool but the person that causes the problem. So many peoples job depend on the internet. not to mention science and the effort of exploring who we are and where we come from.

There will always be wars. there we always be hunger and somethings can't change. we're all sinners right? It's just how much you can make a difference in the world around you before you meet your maker.

But I suppose since you posted your question like that. all your looking for is people to support your theory and not to disagree with it.

start by burning all the BOOKS!

information is dangerous.

if people don't have access to information they are much easier to control so we can make them give the greedy religious leaders all their money.

(did you know that in china, during the cultural revolution, anyone wearing glasses was shot on sight? this is an example of just how dangerous books can be.)

burn books now!!! don't worry, the internet will fall on its own once all the books are gone.

we should applaud the work being done by the Islamic Fundamentalists in this respect. Look at all the progress being made in the middle east. Of course the #1 book being burned is the bible, but thats a small price to pay for an internet-free world.

Look what the internet has brought into our lives. it makes it easier to find information and do work that usually runs our lives. You have entertainment on the web and other resources. Yes, there are people out there that use the web to hurt others, but far more people benefit from the web. You are using the web right now....how would you get an answer for your question without the web? The pros far outweigh the cons!

The key point about the internet is the fact that it has no central location. No central organization runs it. Although Dan Brown's book did state that it was a russian organisation of some kind which invented the internet, it still does not have a centralized location. This is because a number of servers (computers providing data to other computers[clients]) are present. by a number i mean uncountable. So if you destroy one server there are another million to go. so its impossible to destroy the internet.

If people could fly, birds would be out of business. Fish gotta swim, bees gotta sting. Random non-sequitur, pointless statements, baseless assertion, link to page that tells me I'm a sinner. Free will and independent thought is old school, everything you need was written down in Aramaic by dudes a zillion years ago and then edited a few thousand times for political purposes. Buy Jesus.

In-so-far as the internet destroys lives, I'm not sure what your basis for that is... However, it enriches lives much more often. It offers a world of information at the touch of a button. I see that you have a religious link referenced up there.......how much smaller would your audience be if you didn't have the power of the internet to spread your message?

The question is loaded and presupposes that the Internet ruins people's lives, and the question almost sounds like it ONLY ruins people's lives. Saying things like, "the internet destroys lives", and "it's ruining people's lives" without explaining what you mean makes it sound as though there is nothing worthwhile about the internet. As a retort to your question, I am edified by the internet. This page right here gives me an opportunity to hear another's viewpoint and share my opinion without fear of exercising my right of free speech, and all without leaving my room. The internet is full of ideas and opinions I would not hear otherwise. My mind is expanded and my tolerance and understanding of those who don't think like me is increased. There is a great amount of benefit to the internet in addition to the bad stuff of which I assume you are referring (which consequently, "bad" internet content is subjective anyway). But free speech allows anyone to say just about anything. We have to accept the "bad" with the "good", because that means others will not be allowed to stifle our ideas. There are countries that would like to curtail free speech (like China and Russia), but the benefits of free speech outweigh any benefit we would get by shutting it down.
To answer your question: I sure hope the internet cannot be destroyed. There is a way to destroy it for yourself, however. If there is a page you offended by, there's a little 'x' at the top of the page: feel free to click it any time you are offended or feel that it is ruining your life.
Perhaps a better question might be, "how do we get people to have a little self-control when they exhibit self-destructive behaviors?"

You sound Christian. Here is a Scripture from Matthew 13 that I think is applicable, though we may differ as to what is a "tare". He that hath ears to hear, let him hear :)
25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, YE ROOT UP ALSO THE WHEAT with them.
30 LET BOTH GROW TOGETHER until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

I agree with your website link, but not with the anti-internet...there is a lot of junk that we can do without, I am anti that, but for the clean side of the internet, I look forward to seeing more of it. It is part of our daily business lives, and is the only way some businesses exist..without the internet, we would not be where we are today....
