The standard business line is...
Canada imports cheap, cheap wood making it unprofitable for American mills to compete with the neighbors to the north.

There are still local mills, but not nearly anything of scale. Lumber is still being harvested from the area especailly when you go farther north into the Natinal Forests but the markets for the wood dictates that they seek specialized woods or pulp wood.

Is there any timber left over there? It seems that whole area from GB to Fond du Lac is developed.
