That's EXACTLY why. The first President to be elected in this country when we're FINALLY done screwing around in our Middle Eastern sandbox is going to be hit hard by critics for raising taxes. And he or she will HAVE to raise taxes... to pay for the war. Conservatives don't understand that this money has to come from somewhere, and there's no War Fund Tree on the White House lawn, as far as I'm aware.

If democrats are so good at saving money and balancing the budget, why has the current democratic congress added over $20 BILLION in spending for things like peanut storage, Christmas ornaments and trees, etc. onto the Iraq spending bill.
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are in control of the spending now, not Bush. If you knew what you were talking about, you would realize that Congress controls the wallet not the president.
If Bush signs the bills, then he agrees with them. Until the president is given a line item veto, PORK PROJECTS will continue to be done. Ronald Reagan would shut down the government when there was a lot of pork on a bill. He refused to sign them.
I will give you the fact that Bush has not been willing to do this.

It is a proved fact that tax cuts traditionally generate more tax revenue. When taxes are lower more capital is reinvested into the economy. Unfortunately, Democrats deny this fact constantly even when presented with evidence to the contrary. However, tax cuts are useless if spending increases dramatically. This is our current problem. People did get a tax cut which helped individual families and tax revenues have increased, but Congress has and still continues to overspend. Now we have an ever increasing debt load which will have to be addressed at some point. In short, taxes are not really the problem. The real culprit in the equation is out of control spending.
20 billion in pork attached to a defense funding bill. Yep that is fiscally responsible. Further do you even know how Clinton balanced the budget? He cut military and intellignece spending to the bone and then borrowed from the social security trust fund on top of that. Get a clue people. Democrats are not more responsible with the public purse than Republicans and comments to the contrary are just partisan hogwash. Both sides are selling us a bill of goods the only thing that changes is the packaging.

They raise taxes because they have no understanding of how our economy works. By lowering taxes, you increase job production in the private sector. This has a result of increasing the tax revenue. It happens every time it's tried. Have you noticed reports of the projected deficit is actually going down. I actually agree with you to some extent that Republicans have been spending too much on entitlements, but we cannot excuse the Democrats who controlled Congress during the Nixon and Bush 41's Presidency. Bush 43 unfortunately has no excuse.

Any economist worth his green eyeshades will tell you that increasing taxes does not ensure higher tax revenues.
In fact every economic model shows the exact opposite.
As we speak, we continue to post record numbers for taxes collected, while still creating jobs, maintaining record highs in employment and keeping inflation well under control.
The issues you bring up - social programs and out of control spending ARE huge problems.
That is why they should be addressed.
However the Democrats seem to always want to answer an apple problem with an orange answer.
The problem is not taxing too little, it is spending too much.
If the government took 98cents on the dollar from us, I guarantee they would come back next year to tell us they spent 99!
Raising taxes does not fix the problem...the problem is SPENDING.

They all raise taxes, just in different ways. They give tax cuts on income but then mysteriously the price of gas goes up hence forth the tax on that gas increases. The Democrats balanced the budget--they just increased the amount that they were allowed to spend so then the budget is balanced if they don't spend more than they authorized. It's all just a game, and the middle man gets it in the end. That's you and me.

The reasons the Dems always raise taxes is because of HATE, ENVY and unbridled eagerness to grab POWER.
They HATE productive people who work for their money. That activity PROVES the falseness of their entire political philosophy !
Envy? That should need no explanation.
POWER !
Money is POWER. If you have no money, you have no power.
Those closet Marxists want to take your money because they want ALL the power. Then they can control YOU and everything you have ever possessed.
Ever wondered WHY it was the LIBERAL branch of the supreme court that unanimously voted to give governmental bodies the capability to confiscate your property so private corporations could earn more from it and pay more taxes to them?
At the same time, the minority Conservatives on the bench unanimously voted to protect your property rights.

You either haven't read the Constitution or you aren't honest enough to acknowledge it.
All bills for raising and spending are to originate in the House.
Don't lay this off on Presidents.
As a side note, you also need to study up on basic Economics and find out what the Laffer Curve is. Republicans don't mind spending money, that's true, but they believe that lower taxes result in more revenue. Depending on where we are on the Laffer Curve, they could be right. If you don't understand the Laffer Curve, your opinion that we need to raise taxes means no more than the barking of a hound to someone that does understand Economics.

Nope, you got it wrong. The actual revenue being collected by the government has gone up as a result of the Bush tax cuts. That's been proven time and time again so, with more money coming in, why would anyone want to rock that boat? As far as debt, all these moonbats continually point to Clinton's balanced budget but they conveniently leave out the part that allowed him to produce such a miraculous balanced budget. He did not spend the funds that the Congress alocated for the military. By doing that he left us wide open for the attacks we've suffered both under him and up to 9/11. Since 2000 it's been a huge game of catch up due to Clinton's failed policies and that's contributed to the debt also. Libs love to point out that Humvees were not properly armored and things like that, but the reason is that Clinton didn't fund the military contracts properly.
The reality is that we're now paying for democratic ineptness and inattention.

Look at wartime/peacetime presidencies, not Democratic/Republican.
The only time our nation has ever been out of debt was under Andrew Jackson.

first, they want to eradicate Bush's tax cuts purely because it was good for the country...and we all know that what is good for America is bad for democrats...second, the democrats are wholly dependent on being spoon fed, literally..let the gov pay for EVERYTHING.. get a job??? are you serious??..the gop has not increased social programs more than dems...the dems believe in handouts...oh and let's look at all that pork being pushed thru congress...over 2 billion for dc tours??? for example..the dems live and die for their lobbyists...no matter the cost to Americans..
