the Limewire client itself causes no problems on a computer. the files you download, however, can cause major problems. Files and programs you download can have embedded viruses, as can music and video files. you must be careful never to follow any internet link that shows up in something you download, and if a video file says that "you need a codec to play this video," delete the file immediatly. Be very careful when running .exe files you download (programs) as those are the most likely to be viruses. if you ever download a program, make sure the size of the file is comparable to the size of the program. for example, paint shop pro should be many hundreds of megabytes, as should most major programs. if a download is only kilobytes or a few megabytes, be very careful.

The problem with limewire is you're downloading files that may or may not be what you wanted.

There is software called a "binder," which can allow a hacker to take a virus and embed it into another file. Then when you download and run this file, the file you want will execute along with the virus in the background of your system.

Most limewire users have been repeatedly attacked by viruses with out them even knowing it. It is really important that you run some kind of anti-spyware software often, and update it regularly.

The program itself is actually quite stable. What you use the program for, is risky.

It downloads from greater suitable than purely the 9 or 10 source optimal that Limewire makes use of, and likewise documents so lots greater hits than Limewire. take a glance at google.

I've used it before. Two years, actually. Never really had any problems. If I got a virus from it, my virus detector would protect my computer and automatically delete the file. When using a P2P program, you're always taking the risk of getting a Trojan, or something you don't want on your computer. I've never had mine crash when I used limewire.

Now, I have bearshare and bittorrent. Bittorrent is by far the best program I have had that lets you download things. Bearshare comes in second. Bittorrent is free. Bearshare used to be free, but I don't know if it is anymore. I have it on disc, so it's always free for me, as long as I have the disc.

Limewire is P2P (peer to peer) software. This means that you are downloading from the hard drives of other users on the internet and sharing your hard drive with them. Since P2P networks are often used for illegal purposes, like trading music, it's not unusual for the files to be infected with viruses or trojans. And since you're sharing your computer with the entire internet, there's a good chance you'll get hacked. And since there's a lot of illegal activity, there's also a chance you'll find yourself on the wrong end of a lawsuit for copyright infringement.

The only way to download safely is to download legally. That means paying for music, movies and software instead of stealing them.

It is not limewire that damages your computer so much as evil tricks by people that load files with hidden programs called Trojans.

Then again, it might just be the bad Karma from stealing music.

As with any P2P software there's a chance you might download a virus. For example, a program that is shared as an application might contain a virus which could be executed and infect your computer.

To prevent this, use antivirus and antispyware software.
