How long can I expect this to last? Thanks

I feel for you! Every body is different and we all heal at our own pace. I can suggest that you rest, use a sitz bath or else try the OTC sprays to help eleviate the discomfort/pain that you're experiencing. Make sure to sit on soft surfaces too as this will help you to be more comfortable. Make sure to get plenty of rest and after urinating be careful not to wipe too hard (sorry if that seems blunt).
Best of luck to you. If you notice and unusual odors or discharge make sure to contact your doctor immediately as it might be an infection.
Congrats on your new baby!

Healing After Birth

I had stage 3 tears (four in total - all the way to my rectum) and it took me about six weeks to completely heal. But, after three weeks you'll start to feel better. And, sitting down becomes easier. But, like others have said it is sore even after the stitches are gone. Hubby and I weren't intimate until ds was five months old...

I had Tucks in the bathroom instead of toilet tissue. I had a lidocin spray and stool softners. Plus, my doc gave me breastfeeding safe pain meds to help.

Take as many sitz baths as possible. I know alot of my family was like, you had him naturally what's the problem?! Finally, I just had to be completely honest about the pain and tearing...and get the help I needed!

Hopefully you've got some family and good friends close that can help out.

I can only speak from experience but mine took a few weeks. I had disolving stitches and they itched and burned like crazy. They should have given you a little bottle to fill up with warm salty water. If they didn't, make sure that you are rinsing with warm salty water often. This will keep it clean and help with the healing. I should add that even once my stitches were out I had lots of sensitivity for months after. Your best bet is to keep the area clean and dry and keep your eyes open for signs of infection such as a foul odor or an unpleasant disharge. Good luck and congrats on the new wee one!

Hang in there!! Mine took a i think around 3 to 4 weeks but i was tender down there for a good 3 months. It all depends on your body and how it adapts to the healing process. But after a week, this feeling is expected....just wait a little longer, it's a pain but it will eventually go away.

If you're having some discomfort, the best thing to do is a sitz bath. Get a very hot tub; you can put some baking soda in it if you like to soothe it. Then just sit in it. Use an inflatable donut if you can't sit down. You can do this 2 or 3 times a day if you like. Don't worry, it'll start feeling better soon.

Oh, and congratulations!

It doesn't just go away suddenly, unfortunately. The pain just slowly subsides. I think that after 2 or 3 weeks, I didn't notice it nearly as bad. And trust me, I know how you feel, after 43 stitches!!!
Are you still using a Peri Bottle and Tucks Pads? They helped me a TON!
BTW: Congrats on the new little one!

It's normal. But, you don't heal in a week.
I think I felt better down there at 4 weeks.

But, when I was allowed to have sex again at 6 weeks, OUCH!

Good luck!

It took me about 2-3 weeks (and I had a stage 3).

I recommend you speak with your doctor about getting a stool softener and some lidocain spray. It helped me a LOT. I had little to no pain from them. Take sitz baths often!
