they always quote their state laws, their currency, their politics as if they are the only people in the world that use the internet.
for example:
I asked, as it was topical, should decendants of slaves receive an apology....
i was shocked by the replies by people calling me "liberal", some getting very nagry with me, saying i didn't know what i was on about as in some state or other they have already done it...etc, etc!!
i even asked about adoption in the UK and got americans talking to me as if i were from the US.
is is arrogant to think the rest of the world is american?
I always log on th yahoo UK yet it still happens...
has anyone else noticed this?

No, it's definitely arrogance. Not necessarily that they think they are somehow superior, but that they just aren't taught and don't bother to think that the world is a really really big place. The arrogance of insularity.
I try to point this out in my answers sometimes, but the problem is most Americans don't get sarcasm either. Yes yes, I'm sure I'll be slammed for being racist and generalising, but I'm afraid it isn't just a Yahoo problem. It's everywhere and particularly rampant on the net. Drives me nuts too!
It's odd really: I'm Australian, and you'd think we'd have every excuse to be somewhat cut off and isolated, but in general I think we have a pretty good appreciation of our place in the world.

I guess for the same reason when I go to look up something to buy or for just some information, yahoo hooks me up with a site in the UK. I think that it's a Yahoo problem. They have us all conected together. Sometimes that's good and somtimes it's not. I guess that you'll have to state that you are from the Uk to get the correct answer. It's not that we are arrogant, but that Yahoo was started in America and most of it's users are American. Maybe you should e-mail Yahoo with your problem instead of complaining about Americans. We have no way of knowing who we are talking to anyway.

We all log on to the United States Yahoo. I don't think Yahoo is going to separate all the countries. It seems our country talks more about reparation to descendants of slaves. Politically, more liberals hold this view.
Your question on adoption, if not clear enough, could have been misinterpreted. Perhaps they thought you were an American wanting to adopt in the UK. Nonetheless, I don't think it is arrogance, more misunderstanding.

certainly the yank Christians seem to be lots, lots greater fanatical (or particularly, greater intensely and vocally dedicated) than do Christians - even of immediately same communities - in the united kingdom. i think, nevertheless, that that is something of a self-choosing undertaking. a minimum of diverse the early business enterprise of united states of america of america replaced into via severe, non-conforming communities from the united kingdom - who've then had some centuries wherein to become greater deeply entrenched in united states of america of america than they did (or might have carried out) in the united kingdom. and of direction, as a 'race' the English in specific are much less dedicated to faith besides: in England, certainly, faith is a lot greater of an occasional training than an entire life sort. to whether that is taught in American non secular institutions, I certainly do no longer comprehend - nevertheless i'm conscious that the familiar recommendations-set is definitely inspired, if no longer the realisation of that recommendations-set certainly taught.

Yes, I've been surprised by this as well even though I'm an American. Some people condemn poor spelling and grammar as if they were products of the American school system, yet I'm sure that many use English as a 2nd language. There are few Americans who could do half as well in *any* 2nd language!

Of course it is arrogant.
This is actually a very nice question that probably needs a long explanation on society and technology. I would go more into it but I am tired and need to study for exams.

Shhh! Don't tell them!
They think they Are the world.
Hasn't their obsession with World series sports, where the rest of the world is never invited, given you a hint to that?
Today's word is Insular.
Humour them.
