To be frank, most of the people making lot of comments about him.Let it be..nobody forget WC 2003, even though his father passed away..after attending funeral..he made brilliant knock and made a path to final.Your question is totally making misconception about him.

Selfish is not the right word. If he was selfish, he would have hung on to create or save his records(under threat from Ricky Ponting now) .

What is happening is that he is no longer playing his old game? His injuries have left him a pale shadow of his older self.

The Magic word is -Selfish.he is selfish in his own way.
But everyone in his calibre happens to be selfish.
Actually, everyone is not mentally tough for everytime.
I mean see Sachin's look on his face ,...
when he came to bat against Sri Lanka.Failling big time in presure situation is his week point.
But it is not Indian fan's fault.
he himself is to responsible about it.
Such afine batsman Sachin is.......
still he's got something to prove...
Sri lankans & Ausrtalins Have Psychiatrists who always help boosting mental conditions.
Go to wicket & hit hard on cricket ball would not help
much in big events like World cup.
Did you see Lankans & South africa match.
It was won by tougher team ,Mentally.
How many balls last 2batsmen had to survive?
Cricket is a mental game which needs Intelect & resolution.
You should believe in your selves....
Until the last ditch......

One of the reasons they dont play as "a unit" like Australia & Sri Lanka.
Sachin can never save his face from this ignominous exit from world cup 2007.
It was supposed to be ...Sachin's world cup.
Being senior most ,he should have waited until right moment comes instead of being panicky.
Furthermore it was only 250 odd runs to get....
Even big hitting Lankans got it by running between wickets.
Why he went for big booming drive ....Nobody knows..
We have solid facts for that.
India had upper hand in Lanka match...
Though Sri Lanka beat india ,They still had to give their best ever performance..
When Uthappa and Ganguly walked in, India had a target of just 255 runs, on a wicket which had dried and gone flatter.

But nobody showed the determination to stay on, except Dravid. It was his flurry of fours off Malinga in one over that had raised the hopes of selfless Indian fans just for a while.

Any fair critc would sure to say that ,the turning point was Sachin’s getting out to Fernando, through the gate for a duck. That was a vital blow mentally for lower order batsmen.
. India could not recover. The panic button was pressed. Whatever little chances India had went up in flames when Yuvraj was run out foolishly. There wasn't any run there.

India’s strength was batting and given the proper conditions, their medium pacers and the spinners could be devastating. If not, their shoulders start drooping and the bowling goes haywire with all kind of experimentations. It could happen to the batting too.Any team they play they had those short cimmings.

Exactly opposite are Sri Lanka, except that their batting is as good if not better. Even Banladeshi young batters had much more conviction.Simmply Indian star batters failed big time.
Why they were not given a chance(psychologically)
to build a tough mental......consentration?
Nobody knows for sure.
When they came to bat their minds were on other things ..It seems.utter nonsence, how he got out.
The shot he tried was too heroic.
He had other Ideas, one may say...
You know likes of money, drama, glory, heroic stugh etc..
don't you agree sir?

Lankans & Bangladeshis aproach & ground fielding was just outstanding. And most importantly, they played in team spirit and not "as individuals". Indians were nonchalent &selfish.
They cared money & publisity too much.
And that’s the thin line that differentiated the two teams.
Yes,Everybody is Selfish.
But Sachin.....Is It too much..?

Some of us are over reacting. Let us see some of the facts: If records tell the story (they do not-Viv Richards was the best batsman and he does not hold the records) then would some of the Sachin's fans answer the following questions:

i) How many 'ceat cricketer of the year' awards have been won by Sachin?
ii) Since 1998, in how many finals(ODIs) has Sachin scored signifcantly? This is an eye opener.
iii) How many centuries of Sachin (both ODIS and Tests) feature dropped catches? There are many of them.
iv) What is the stike rate of Sachin against McGrath, Bret Lee, Shane Bond, Vaas, Pollock? You will be surprised that
more often than not, these bowlers have toyed witth Sachin.
v) What has been his performance in the recent overseas tours of Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies? Abysmal.
vi) This 'world's best batsman' was shileded against Ray Price, spinner in the Zimb side, in a Test when Zimb toured India some years back. Though India won that Test, as soon as he faced Price, Price got him.

Statistics, especially in cricket, do not present a true picture. Just see. A batsman scores 250 not out in an innings, and that innings is the only innings in that Test. Then in the remaining two Tests he scores 0, 0, 0, 0,, Just see!!!! We will say he averaged 60( a very healthy average). We will not say he failed in the remaining Tests. Such is the story of Sachin. He scores heavily in a few innings. Then there is a spell of quietude and he is given chance after chance.

If we see impartially, others have not been given so many chances. Ganguly was dropped for FOUR LONG YEARS from 1992 to 1996. He was not allowed about a dozen ODIs recently due to politics. Only God knows how much he would have scored. At that time Sachin, Dravid, Greg Chapell were treating him like a servant. Ganguly is not anyone to me, but the treatment was so bad, that I cursed these three players from my heart. They may be players, but they are not human beings with human values.

They have got themselves into the trap they set for Ganguly. I do not think they wll be able to resurrect their careers.

As for the best batsman, for quite some time(for the last three years) it is Ponting (only in my humble opinion). He copes pressure better than Lara ever did. Sachin was at his best from 1996-1999. At that time it was Aravinda De Silva who played better than him. Anybody who doubts me can see videos of this master batsman who played all strokes. fearlessly, UNDER ANY SITUATION.He made a mincemeat of the Australian attack, and Aussies are very miserly in praise.

I have myself wasted time on these trifle issues, but hope I shall be more resolute in future. Thanks to all of you.

When generally u see the records over a period of time, it shows Sachin has played for himself with some excellent big scores but India fail to win or draw a Test match or win the ODI which other players have done for their countries. So I think except first few years of his cricket career, Tendulkar now wants to register his name in Cricket history with these all records Most Centuries in ODI & Test, Most runs in both forms of cricket etc.

So Yes he is selffish player not plays for the team.

It appears to be true as it has been endorsed by Sanjay Manjrekar, who was not only a great player but also a close friend of Sachin.

Sadly yes, unlike Dravid,Sehwag,Yuvraj,Kaif etc..among batsmen.Especially so during his later part of career.
Bowlers can't be accused of selfishness except when the captain himself is a bowler.
