I am interested by the Kennedy/Marilyn Monroe thing.
I just read in the past few months that the FBI just released documents for the first time that prove that they had contact VERY close to the time of her death, and that she had been followed while having a meeting with enemies of JFK in Mexico.

Some fascinating stories to look more deeply into:

Henry VIII, his children's reign, Elizabeth I, and the hstory of ENglish protestantism and teh English Bible (search: William Tyndale)

The Salem Witch Trials

THe last Romanovs

Those are a few that have always interesed me

If you like stories about the Jews in WWII search the web for "Stefania Podgorska." It's an AWESOME Story. Movie made about it entitled "hidden in silence"

If you like the 1700's then read up on the French REvolution. Read the book "The Scarlet Pimpernel" and find the movie with the same name (The version with Jane Seymore and Anthony Andrews as the leads) It's historical fiction, but it's such a fun story, and based on life at the time.

The ancient world, from the rise of the first civilizations through the fall of the {western) Roman Empire. The Roman Republic and then the Roman Empire are particularly interesting, as is classical Greece from about 500 bc on.

We keep finding more and more things that were known in those days that we think - or used to think - are recent discoveries.

The bit I'm living in; and the bit I've lived through - and anything else I can find in the past than illuminates all that. Which is almost any of it if it's studied thoughtfully, because the skeleton of history changes so little, despite the vast superficial changes - because humanity changes so little, sadly. We still have would-be emporers, pirates, and the rest.

Two historical things fascinate me...first is the Black Dahlia; why did someone drain her of her blood and chop her up? And who did it?

The other one is Lizzie Borden. I do feel that she is the one who killed her parents...but how? There wasn't any blood on her and they didn't have running water in the house. How did she get the blood off of her so quickly? Did she kill them nude? What caused her to snap like that? (personally, I think she was being molested by her father...hence the rage).

Historically speaking, these two incidents have many questions surrounding them and clearly not enough answers. I find them fascinating.

Right now I am interested in The Battle of the Little Big Horn. This summer I am going to take my children to see a reenactment of the battle. It should be interesting.
