a good question!! My dad has cancer and is really suffering through different chemo treatments, and on occasions he looks so fed up and tired i could really cry for him, and your question crossed through my mind a couple of days ago, i wondered what i would do if he asked me to help him, and as much as i hate seeing him like he is i do happen to believe miracles can happen and believe that sometimes doc's cant be right all of the time! and my heart is bursting with hope for my dear dad so if he asked me that question i would have to let him down and say "no dad, i just love you way too much to give up on you !"

I have no idea having never been in that situation. Although I would like to see their suffering end I do not know that I could do it. I think there should be legal ways around this so that family are not put into this position in the first place but the laws would need to be carefully monitored.

I would sure have to think about it. My Mum was dying in the hospital in a coma and they did away with all of the heroic measures except medicine for pain, etc. and she just slipped away. She had always said she didn't want to be on life support, and it was obvious what her desires were.
It was still hard to say "yes, only do what keeps her comfortable."
I would like to think I had the ability to help them, but it would be a very difficult decision. I don't envy this position and I am so sorry for the state of affairs that made this question one to ponder.

Yes. If I had let my dog go on suffering in terrible pain I would have been considered cruel and could even be charged with causing suffering. Yet the same legal body who decided that would expect me to allow my husband to suffer appalling pain and complete loss of all dignity and quality of life. I don't pretend to have the answers as to how, or even if, we can implement euthanasia in a safe, moral and ethical way but it can't be right to let someone suffer so badly for so long.

Hi Smiler, I believe i would. My mom suffer very much before she die and i never want to see anyone suffer like my mom did. It's away to keep them from the terrible pain they have to handle and it gets to a point they can't not handle the pain anymore and they wish for death. Yes i think i can help them in a case like this.. A Friend.

Although I believe that someone suffering in such a way should have the right to choose to end their life, I don't know if I could actually do it.

I don't think so as that will be all i would remember them by rather than the important stuff.
I would always remember that i helped to kill them
Not a nice thought to be left with
Good Question

That's tough. I don't know if I could but it depends on all of the situation. If it's a matter of something that couldn't get better I might but it's really not "our" call.
