They pretty much cost the same everywhere, any variance will be small. Apple likely has tight controls via reseller agreements with their authorized resellers. Any reseller found to be offering them at a discounted price will probably no longer be authorized in short order. It's in Apple's best interest to keep the price high as long as possible. If the Zune becomes popular, expect to see Apple get aggressive with iPod pricing.

Be skeptical of any bargains you find on Ipods. Apple is really quick to swap out a "broken" ipod for a refurbished one under warranty. I always wonder what happens to those broken ones.

Similar to the $3 cell phone batteries on eBay. Those are not new, only refreshed and most likely no better than the one your trying to replace.

You know your paying more money just because its an iPod.
Apple have people so fooled they can charge what they want.
Go take a look at some of the other brands like Creative Labs. They have some great MP3 players and you wont be locked into iTunes!

Check E-bay. They've got cheap ones. Make sure that it is a reputable seller though. You don't want to get a messed up one or a knock-off. Most stores will carry it at about the same price though.

yea but some might be cheaper than others by like a couple of dollars but shop around see you might be able to get for a good price because they sometimes have sales on ipods. bestbuy.com,circuitcity.com
