Depends on what the contest was.

For instance, if we are talking about the lottery, I wouldn't give a monkey's if I won it by cheating.

If it was a game of squash, or chess, or any other sport - I can't see the point of cheating as you are only fooling yourself.

in some games cheating is just another way of playing the honest way (e.g. business)
But i hate stuff like that.
Id rather lose the honest way
In fact i prefer losing the honest way than winnign the honest way. You learn nothing when you win, except you were the best in the contest. If you lose, however, you can examine the reasons, and it provides a challenge to overcome.

When I do this, honestly, I find myself often realizing that i probably lost simply because I was the one not cheating. Thats a depressing thing to realise.

If you win from cheating...dont assume you fooled your opponents. You might fool the administration, but your opponents might know damn well u cheated, and just cant be bothered to talk about it, cause they are depressed and cynical.

I'd rather lose the honest way. When I was a kid, I won a couple of games by cheating and never really enjoyed the win as much as I did when I won honestly. And I think it is a sign of maturity that you play for the fun of the game and not to win or lose. Games are a lot more enjoyable that way.

Almost always, I'd rather be honest, even if it means losing, even if the stakes are high. But, on the other hand, it depends. I can think of a lot of scenarios in which I'd be willing to cheat. If I was forced into something where I thought the rules were stupid. If I have no respect whatsoever for the other(s) with a stake in the situation. If the stakes include something or the vital interests of someone that is so important to me that it would be unbearable to lose.

I would rather lose the honest way, even if you cheated and never got caught, you know you cheated and the win would be nothing too YOU.

Winning by cheating leaves you with a feeling of guilt if you
consider yourself a honest person...Losing, even losing the
honest way has newer been popular...If you put these two on a
balance, what you choose greatly depends on your character...Altogether it is best to avoid conflict if you feel
weak, if you feel lucky and have some advantage over competition, than off course, you should go for winning.

lose the honest way. if i were to get an A on an exam because I cheated, I'd feel even stupider than if I'd gotten an F by not cheating. plus i would feel guilty and dejected. it's bad enough hating other people---but hating yourself is the worst!

The stark truth is that due to heightened competition amongst ourselves, winner tag has become more important than moral values.... everyone goes to quite an extent to win, even by cheating and even taking quite a risk of getting caught.... honesty has become a devalued concept in today's cut-throat competition.

I think if you can win by cheating and you aren't caught ever then that is the same as winning. There is some skill and craftiness involved in achieving this.

I'd much rather lose the honest way. I can't cheat. Even the thought of it makes my skin crawl and the back of my neck tingle most unpleasantly.

(yes, my agnostic/atheist parents did somehow manage to instill strong values in me)
