a)Siddhartha left without telling his wife.
b)His wife became very sad and then she had messengers who told her how Siddhartha was spending his days in search of Nirvana. For example, when Siddhartha fasted, his wife fasted as well.
c)Yes, he did visit them and when he did he took away his son and turned him into a monk. (Not by force, of course)

Hope this helps. ^-^

First, it must be noted that we know almost nothing about Siddhartha's early life, or about his life at all. It is shrouded in more mists than the life of Jesus and very little is actually known about him beyond a few little bits of information, and even these are by word-of-mouth or from secondary sources. Therefore, what we do know is from stories and not all the stories agree. They often have him in two different places, a hundred miles apart, at the same time.

He did indeed leave his family but in those times that was fairly reasonable and traditional. He did maintain some level of contact with them, however, and they did come to visit with him, or at least some of the stories tell of this, but a great deal of what we know about Siddhartha is from secondary sources. It was frequent for young men to leave the family and pursue knowledge or training in another area other than right in their parents' home. This was not a bad thing but rather a way for children to learn and also to get-out-of-the-house when they were teenagers. A good plan, eh?

He understands that if he stays with them, he cannot save them from their fate. People must obey their fate and continue the suffering cycle. He indeed left them , which is a sinful act in Buddhism because it brings pain to his family. But later he comes back and saves his countries; bless his family to save them from their material desires and enlighten them so they can go to Nirvana after they die. It is a greatest deed that one can do.
