Core is the center of a sphere.

Look at an apple fruit. The core is the central part where the seed is surrounded by a hard tissue.

In astronomy, core refers to the central part of any heavenly body.
The core of the earth is very hot(but not hotter than the sun - 14 million degree Celsius) which results in volcanic activities.
