Best movies you've ever seen?

Question

Horror and Independant( or Forein) films, please.
When I say Horror, I mean ones that are not only bloody, but that are going to make my heart fly up into my throat.
Real gut wrenching movies.

And movies like The Science of Sleep, Y tu mamá también, The Apartment , Pulp Fiction. Along those lines.
Forein films are the greatest, so PLEASE name some of those if you think of any, instead of just all scary ones.
I'm having a movie night tonight, and going out to rent the movies in a few hours.
Best variety gets the points, and fast.

I can't think of horror films, and "300" is not a horror movie, but it's gut-wrenching.

For foreign films (and I really love foreign films), here are the choices:

Of course this is an extremely subjective question, but from a narrative perspective, I found "12 Monkeys" to be nearly flawless in terms of flow, execution of concept, and expositional setup.

"City of Lost Children" is another one that's worth watching- not perfect, but extremely visually interesting, and conceptually, one of the most evocative movies I've seen in a long, long time. Also: it's foreign, so there's a point for you there.

The amazing thing of this true story is not that so many were killed or injured, but that so many, due to their training, lived!
