IIT JEE is a Joint Entrance Examination held every year by Indian Institute of Technology. There are at present 7 IIT's in India. They are Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Guwahati and Roorkee. You can also enter in to ISM-Dhanbad, BHU and TS-Chankaya through this exam. There more than 2lac students appearing for it every year and there lot of coaching institutes providing special coaching. IIT JEE is for graduation (BTech and Dual degree programmes). They also have MTech, MBA, MSc, and Phd programmes. For them the selection process is different.

First of all congrats on making a good decision, that you want to be an IITian, kudos.
If you have to prepare, then the right time to start is right after 10th. My suggestion would be to join some coaching institute near to your house. Some good ones are, Vidyamandir, FIITJEE and PIE. You can also go for correspondence courses offered by Vidyamandir and Brillian Tutorials.
You must keep testing yourself, to assess your performance from time to time, this will give you an idea as in where do you stand as far as the relative performance goes. I have seen quite a few people go to Kota in Rajasthan to prepare, you can check that option too. In you are in Delhi or any urban city then accessibility to good material should not be a problem.

First you have to master the school PCM of 11th and 12th. After that spend a little time every day practising on difficult questions. This is sufficient for IIT. If you are willing to do this, you can get free coaching of high quality on internet. Free individual coaching for IIT JEE on internet is better than some paid classroom coaching. IIT JEE = Indian Institutes of Technology Joint Entrance Examination
the exam u need to pass to get into an IIT.
class 10 (or any other class) students can take special tuitions for this... but they must balance their school work as well

as others have already told what i intended to answer,i wont elaborate..........just ALL THE BEST...........and i feel 10th is a bit early for JEE coaching,post 10std is the right time when u got the basics to pursue JEE syllabus which includes 11 & 12 std course......
