i love the book but i have found i love all the books by mitch albom,,,, he is a great writer,,,, you will enjoy any or all of his books,,,,, the 5 people you meet in heaven,,, and one more day

read it a while back and I found it self indulgent. Making a big deal about the author who lowers himself to visit a dying person as if he was thehero. Oh please...get over yourself -was my thought when reading it.
I would not read the other book sof his after reading this one as I figured it would be a syrupy as another answerer described. Have you read A Girl named Zippy or She got off the Couch by Haven Kimmel ? Those are some books with character,heart warming but realistic and not syrupy.

Simple syrup --that's transparent, sticky and too sweet. That's what I thought of it.
