It really depends on the individuals, but I have seen it go well many times. I am a Leo, my best friend is a Cancer, my roommate is a Cancer. Both of them dated Leos in a long-term relationship, and they still keep them as close friends today. Another Leo friend of mine has been in an 8 year relationship with a Cancer.
Cancers and Leos are truly complimentary to each other. What one lacks, the other offers, and they sort of complete each other. Cancer is introverted while Leo is extroverted. Cancer is shy, and Leo will do the work for them. Cancer will humble the ever-energetic Leo, giving them some time to really experience life at a slower pace, which is great on occassion. Both love family, so they really love to see their relationship blossom. Both make great efforts to make it work.
