Does it bother you that Hollywood churns out the same old crap over and over again just to make a buck? Sure there are some examples of excellence in every genre but it seems like the truly moving stories are few and far between. I guess I wouldn't care but the theaters where I live are so overrun by the cookie cutter stuff I have to wait for rental for a lot of the films I'm really interested in seeing. What are your thoughts? Do you think "Are we there yet?" really needed a sequel? Are you going to see the Will Ferrell ice skating movie on opening night? Not trying to be a snob but it's frustrating to me. I realize it's the movie "business" but I think the pursuit of wealth has damaged the art form.

I totally agree.
I also hate the remakes they keep doing of old movies, that were perfectly acted, being made into these big films with poor acting, poor costuming and plastic actors and actresses.
This whole thing with making old tv shows into movies is also annoying.
I wish some people would get their heads together, think of some original and profound storylines so that i can go and see a good film!!

No it doesn't really bother me. I have gone to fewer and fewer films over the last 6 years. It is funny Hollywood has been in a "Slump" over the last couple of years. You would think they would rethink what they are doing. Most movies out today are just trash, and the few that have drawn me to them are often a disappoitment. 300 was great, but few other movies I have seen have been something new. In part sequells are the best because you know what you are getting. but how many Friday the 13th, and Texas Cm did anyone need to see.

in all art, there's crap and then there's true art, you just have to be a snob and look for what you like. for every picasso, there's a thousand lisa frank posters. I'm a sucker for good movies and get so fed up too. I'm kinda digging blockbuster.com now, because I rate my favorites and it suggests others i might like that I've never seen. keep the faith.

what I don't get is why they are doing all of these remakes....why fix something that aint broke? the hills have eyes, willy wonka, didn't need to be touched. (although I did like Ocean's Eleven a little)

Okay, so Hollywood may be messing it up. But there still is the Cannes festival, and the American Spirit award, which goes to the independent film makers. Elephant, a clockwork orange, when good film makers go independent they become of true brilliance.

I am realllllly easily amused so I'm lucky- I can watch a movie and see that it's dumb and conciously know that it's the same crap I've seen a hundred times but I can still enjoy it just because it's vaguely entertaining. I like being easily amused :)

Doesn't the same go for all the arts? 90% crap and 10% pure fantastic. See also music.

that is Hollywood for you.

I prefer independent works... mostly because I can have the opportunity to work on them (audio produxion)... and because they usually have an original idea.
