I downloaded AVG Free Edition recently then ran a full scan on my laptop's hard disk (Dell Inspiron 6000). It took 1 hr 34 mins (and found no viruses). Is this normal?

Depends on what type of scan it is. If its a full system scan then it will go through every one of your files. This can take ages or short time depending on how many files you have.

A quick scan however will scan known places for viruses to hide, this takes much less time. As the virus will not know your specific file paths then it is unlikely they will hide in one of them, so quick scan is pretty effective.

Yes, using AVG to do a full system scan does take a long time, I would suggest trying a smart system scan if you want to save time.

YEs thats a good time for a virus scan. It depends on the number of files on your computer and large compressed files can slow it down.

Hope this helps.

Yes it is depending on how much stuff is on your harddrive...and how many harddrives you have on your system. If you have alot of programs/folders/files/pics...what have ya...it will take a while to finish a scan.
