What do you think is better? What are the pros and cons of each? Which would you recommend?

Well I like Asus but I wouldn't buy a a laptop from them, why, try finding a replacement battery! In fact that is true for either of these machines. Just see if you can get spare parts, it will either be very difficult or not at all.
Having been around using latops for well over 15 years I have found that only the Major manufacturers should be used. I know I will need a battery sometime, I know I may want more memory, I know I may need service. If the companies that sell can't deliver these I won't be interested in the product! If I can't find a battery online for a laptop I am not interested. Now that is just my opinion, but think about it.
