Yes definitely. Employers don't need an excuse to do this. I worked for a very well known retail company. We had a lunchtime job going for 15 hours a week and got 20 applicants! On the top of the application form it said to fill in block capitals in black ink, all those who weren't (6 of them)went straight in the bin without even being read.

It may well be that just from the application the employer can see that someone else clearly has more experience than you and so you may not get an interview.

It may also be that the employer has in depth knowledge about handwriting and has already decided what kind of person you are and that you haven't got the job.

If an employer has struggled to read your application because you have bad handwriting or thinks that another applicant has better handwriting then that may prevent you from getting an interview.

Yes you can be rejected from a job before the interview stage. Most places look at your application and decide whether to dismiss it or not. Sometimes it might mean that you're just not suitable for the position and doesn't necessarily mean that your qualifications or experience aren't good.

Your application can be rejected.

You can blow it at the phone interview stage.

Or, someone in the company can already know of you and recommend that the manager not bring you in.

There are a million ways to be rejected from hiring.

It is disheartening but, yes, you will find that potential employers will review CVs/application forms and reject those who do not fit the criteria for the role they have advertised.

Sometimes, unfortunately, even if you are qualified and have loads of experience the company already has someone earmarked for the role (who already works for the company), but by law they have to advertise the job.

Yes they can, it's all about your application letter and your resume you send to the employer. If you don't have a satisfactory application letter and qualifications to back it up they bin it straight away without any further thought or consideration.

Try and keep your Resume to a maximum of 1 page so they can look it over without having to waste time reading copious pages of information. Keep your application letter concise and to the point and only include relevant information applicable to the position being advertised.

yes, if they see your resume and think you are not appropriate for the job, they won;t invite you for job interview, so you are rejected before you have the opportunity for an interview

If they do and they contact you, perhaps they decide they dont like your telephone manner.
