Have someone help you do a mold of your face using gauze (the kind they use for casts) and plaster. Put pertoleum jelly on your face so it won't stick, and use straws in your nose to breathe through. Dip strips of pre coated gauze into water, and cover your face. Continue until your face is covered with a fairly thick coat. When dry, remove and let dry completely. Coat the inside with petroleum jelly. Pour casting material (plaster of paris or similiar) into mold and let dry. Remove from mold. Now you can proceed many ways. You may want to paint the face to look exactly like you, or you may want to use it as a basis for a collage or assortment of other media. Choose a mounting for you mask which lends itself to your concept of "you." I had to do this project in college. One student in my class did her face and arms and hands. She mounted them on a board inside of a window frame so she appeared to be looking out. She said she did this because she always felt she was looking out at life instead of participating in life.

This is a standard art assignment. It's meant to make you stretch your ideas about art. To take them from the literal, which would be a photo or drawing of your head or body, and re-shape them to the conceptual, which I will help you produce. Your professor should have shown the class some classic self-portraits to get you started. Instead of an outline of your body, you want an outline of your life, using visual elements.
What colors seem to represent "you?" Are you heart over head, or head over heart? What are your hobbies? What jobs have you had that meant a lot to you?
My self-portrait project was done only a few years ago. By that time I had been a hairdresser and a landscaper. So I took a photo of myself, and glued it on, cut up a bit. Then I took a photo of several waterfalls and cut them up, then glued them on in place of my hair. I made the waterfall/hair wind all around the other elements of the self-portrait to show that these were all parts of my life. I used the color photo copier a whole lot to get all the parts the way I wanted them. There was a whole lot more, but I don't want to tell you so much about it that you don't use your imagination. Have fun with it.
If you are stuck, ask friends to tell you something about you, or something that when they see it, they think about you right away.

i had this assignment when i was in college except we had to paint our self portrait in the style of a painter, Monet, Serat, etc. so you could do a surrealistic version of yourself the easiest thing i found was to find a mirror as large as you can that will show the part of you you want to paint ( head & shoulders, waist up) and put it on the easel next to your canvas and go to work. get input from friends and fellow artists to capture the real you

You don't have any options or need any ideas...do a portrait of yourself. If you need to then have someone take a polaroid shot of you and paint it. Or you could sit in front of a mirror.

How many ideas for a self portrait do you need?? I would have thought there would only be one option! A self portrait is of yourself!

Take a picture of yourself, Print the picture as large as possible. Place the picture on a bright outside window. Place art paper on top of photo, tape in place and copy the features of your face! Now take the drawing down, colour!
