It could be that you are run down or depressed or coming down with an illness. Or maybe you have been under a lot of stress working too hard?

If you are ill, then yes, but if you havent, this is why:

You body works on sleep installments. You have a 20 minute sleep cycle. So if you sleep for 20mins you may wake up feeling more refreshed and less tired than if you slept for 3.5 hours.

You reach your deepest sleep after 10mins, and then you will reach a lighter sleep after that. So if you wake up after 10mins, you would have jolted yourself awake from your deepest point. Therefore you would still feel tired.

Does that make sense? Thats why people like Maggie Thatcher could have a 20mins power nap, and be ok afterwards.

That is why if you hit snooze on your alarm which is normally about 10mins, it can make you feel worse.

Even if you had anemia (lack of iron) you should still wake up feeling ok, not tired, and you would get tired during the day.

Increase your fruit and green veg and water intake, and see if that helps. I did, and I felt better for it.

My teenage children used to do the same: sleep up to 12 hours and wake feeling dead tired. The solution is to reduce the number of hours you spend in bed to 8, and rise as soon as you wake in the morning. Use an alarm to wake, and don't try to get a few extra winks. In my opinion, the problem stems from ones' body clock being out of whack. Restore your body clock by imposing strict sleeping hours.

Too much sleep will wear your body out. You need to find the perfect amount of sleep for you and stick with it. Most people do best somewhere between 6-9 hours. I have the most energy all day if I get 6.5 hours.

But I must admit, I love those days of sleeping 12 hours. And then taking naps on and off all day. So rare... so nice.

Being tired after 11 hours of sleep is absolutely nothing to be worried about, and completely normal.

No, nothing wrong with it. Sometimes we tend to under estimate how tired we really are. Our lives are ruled by alarms and we almost never wake up naturally, refreshed and revived...If you feel tired after 11 hours of sleep then go back to bed...sleep is the second best medicine..!

i sometimes sleep for that long and feel tired when i wake. just keep an eye on it if its happening everyday you need 2 go and see the doc. Could there b a reason behind it are you getting enough fruit and veg in your diet? are you going 2 bed late? working 2 much? stressed about something?

everyone needs a different amount of sleep.
however, waking up still feeling tired after 11 hrs seems a concern.
definitely see a doctor and get tests for anaemia, thyroid etc.
i also am wondering about the quality of your sleep.
people who have sleep apnea often get a good number of hrs of sleep but wake up feeling tired. you could ask your dr about getting tested for this in a sleep lab (as well as other sleep disorders such as restless leg syndrome).

I could sleep all day and still be tired.. Different people need different amounts of sleep. I can sleep during the day and still have no problem sleeping at night. But maybe you have anemia or something... you might need to get your blood tested!??

If I did that I would still be tired the next day but would feel the benefits of it the day after that.
