i know that it has to be the transmission but im not sure on exactly wat it is . i think somethig is loose any ideas?

Like Dan J said - depends on the car/motor, etc....
Some of the Chrysler V-6 motors (3.0, 3.3 and 3.8, probably the 2.7 and 3.5, too) have a single serpentine belt that runs most of the pulley driven accessories.... there is a single pulley on an arm - called the tensioner. It provides the tension to the belt to keep it tight.... The bearings in this pulley can get a bit "loose" and cause some chattering.... you hear it when at idle.... it's nothing to worry about... just a noise... you can have the tensioner replaced - but it will start making noise again - sometimes in a few months - sometimes in a few years....
Give us some more information as to the car, engine, trans, etc., for a better chance at a diagnosis...

If you have an automatic it could be a loose fitting on the transmission. A standard clutch often gets loose. Both sounds go away once in gear. Also you may have a slightly loose timing belt which would stop making noise once you start moving.
What you need to do is put your car in park, put on the emergency brake and get out to listen where the noise is coming from (with your hood up).
Lots of pieces get loose and it may not be so bad.

If the better octane would not artwork, you could pour engine restoration oil additive into the engine besides. Its style of a speedy restoration for a motor vehicle which you will sell. Makes the engine run smoother for sort of 1000 miles, or till you haven't any longer any touch with the sucker that bought the motor vehicle.

Hey when your car idles, if it sounds like like rocks rattling around, when you put it drive it goes away. ITs the Cat converter , the pellets have worn down. Just get a new cat and your set buddy.

Sometimes it is the 'shield' that is attached to the Catalytic Convertor.Stop in any Muffler Shop and have them check it out.Although rattling noises can be something else.But I would start there.

Without having any idea of what kind of car it is..... It could be anything, possibly your AC compressor which should be located somewhere along the path your serpentine belt takes and have lines coming out of it.

Sounds like the catalytic converter to me. It will continue to get worse and you will begin to notice a loss of power.

the best thing you can do is go up under your car and check for loose stuff i.e. the exhaust and heat shields.

loose toque converter bolts will do that or a transmission mount
