Hi,

Since this is a linear equation, any 2 points on the line would be enough to be able to graph it.

Sometimes the easiest way to find 2 points is to solve for the x and y intercepts. You can do this by substituting 0 for x and then again substituting 0 for y, like this.

2x - y = 4 Let x = 0, so
2(0) - y = 4
-y = 4 Dividing by -1,
y = -4 That means (0,-4) is one point on your graph.

2x - y = 4 Now let y = 0, so
2x - 0 = 4
2x = 4
x = 2 That means (2,0) is another point on your line.

Graph those 2 points and draw your straight line!

Another way you can find points is by plugging it any numbers for x and solving for y. Suppose we want to let x = 0, 1, and 2.

2x - y = 4 Let x = 0, so
2(0) - y = 4
-y = 4 Dividing by -1,
y = -4 That means (0,-4) is one point on your graph.

2x - y = 4 Let x = 1, so
2(1) - y = 4
2 - y = 4 Subtracting 2,
-y = 2 Dividing by -1,
y = -2 That means (1,-2) is another point on your graph.

2x - y = 4 Let x = 2, so
2(2) - y = 4
4 - y = 4 Subtracting 4,
-y = 0 Dividing by -1,
y = 0 That means (2,0) is another point on your graph.

So you can graph the points at (0,-4), (1,-2), and (2,0) and draw your line through them.

I hope that helps!

Allocate values to x and calculate y:-
2x = y + 4
x = 0 gives (0,- 4)
x = 2 gives (2,0)
x = 3 gives (3,2)
Two points are enough to draw a straight line but it is a good idea to use three points and check that the line goes thro` the three of them.

2x-y=4
subtract 2x from each side, which leaves you with -y=2x+4 right? yes, so multiply each side by -1 to get rid of the negative y. that leaves you with y=-2x-4. thats all i can do to help! hope you kinda understand it more! i was having trouble with this too. however im in algebra in 7th grade

2x - y = 4

y intercept

let

x = 0

2x - y = 4

2(0) - y = 4

- y = 4

- 1(- y) = - 1(4)

y = - 4

When x = 0 , y = - 4

- - - - - - - -

x intercept

let

y = 0

2x - y = 4

2x - 0 = 4

2x = 0

2x / 2 = 4 / 2

x = 4 / 2

x = 2

When y = 0 , x = 2

y=2x-4 ...input some x #'s and get the corresponding y's and plot them on a graph, there's really not too much else.
