Is Bush doing ANYTHING to help our country? Why is he the president anyway?

2007-03-29 19:17:45 · 12 answers · asked by Becca 2 in Politics & Government Politics

I ask because I was only 11 when 9/11 happened and I don't know much about our government, and I'm learning. And when I said Sadaam I meant Bin Laden, my mistake! And don't tell me I should have voted, because I couldn't, and I can't for another year and a half.

President Bush was elected by the people of the United States of America. That's why he is President.
Bin Laden was not in the US when the 9/11 attacks occurred. Some of his family was though and they were taken overseas for their protection.
The US Congress gave President Bush authorization to do whatever he wanted to stop terrorists.
The US first went into Afghanistan and took out the Taliban. At that time, the majority of intelligence agencies across the globe had information that Saddam Hussein was in possession of chemical and biological weapons and was in the process of rebuilding his nuclear weapons program. And was making noises like he'd give them to terrorists.
You see, he'd used poison gas on his own people in the past and the Israelis had bombed a nuclear reactor of his years before.
The UN tried to do inspections of sites where they thought the "WMD's" might be but Saddam wouldn't let them. He finally kicked the inspectors out. After 17 (or more) resolutions in the UN Security Council and numerous diplomatic efforts, the US invaded and took him out. Very few WMD's were found and there was little evidence of a nuclear program. The UN coalition didn't want to just walk away, leaving a power vacuum in the area so they (with us being the biggest part) decided that allowing the Iraqi people to form their own government would be the thing to do. At the same time there was a lot of rebuilding and improving of infrastructure to do. Lots of people all over the world made lots of money on that.
Well, it seems some of Iraq's neighbors are not happy with the kind of government the Iraqi people have chosen and are trying to keep them from having self determination. At the same time there are deep-rooted religious differences in the sects of Islam that have killed thousands of Iraqis. It seems they take their religion VERY seriously over there.
Why don't we just get out of the way and let them fight? You might ask. Well, we are, for the most part. Mostly, we're training the Iraqi armed forces and police and helping where we're needed at this time. Soon as they're able to stand on their own - WE'RE OUTA THERE!!

We invaded Iraq because we believed they were in violation of their agreement with us after the Gulf War in 1991 which said that Iraq had to verify that it had eliminated all of its WMD. Our believe has turned out to be false. Saddam Hussein was not in the United States on 9/11 or anytime around 9/11. We are still in Iraq to secure the country and assist the Iraqis in building a police force which can maintain order once we leave. Bush is President because he received enough electoral votes to be elected President in both 2000 and 2004.

The US invaded Iraq because Saddam refused to comply w UN directives to allow impartial inspectors to look for WMDs in Iraq. Saddam called our bluff, & we went in to liberate the Iraqi people & remove any WMDs found.

The ensuing civil war in Iraq is far worse than anyone anticipated. We have a moral obligation to support the fledgling Iraqi government until they can maintain order.

If we just abandon the area there is a general belief that the entire area will erupt into violence completely stopping oil production & sales which would devastate the world economy & ours.

Bush was elected in 2000 , & reelected by the American people in 2004. He will leave office on Jan 20, 2009

he invaded Iraq to finish the first gulf war in 1991 that his daddy started, The Persian Gulf War,, to drive Saddam out of Kuwait,,
Bush allowed Osama bin Laden's family members to leave the United States right after 9-11,,, we are still in Iraq because Bush doesn't want to leave,, he said two years ago,, that our troops would never leave as long as he was the president,, he thinks he is noble,, he claims to be a righteous man,, he claims that God wants the U.S. to kill everybody that he considers to be evil,,, Bush supposes himself to represent good,, and if anyone disagrees with him,, they represent evil,,, even American citizens,, this is his doctrine,, "your either with us or your against us" ,,, the Bush invasion of Iraq,, and the US military occupation is his crusade of good verses evil,,,,, since he did not find the WMD,, in Iraq,, that he and Cheney told Americans was the reason the US started the war,, to liberate the Iraqi people from their evil dictator,, remember how they said the U.S. would be welcomed with flowers when we first invaded Iraq,,

he was re-elected by the right wing Republicans,, they are a bunch of born-again Christians that listen to Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson,, their Evangelist Preachers,,, that make a lot of money spreading their version of the of the bible,, (the KJV) they have brainwashed a lot of Americans,, about 27% of the population,, who follow them to revivals,, in big arena's,,, but the majority of Americans have decided that George W. Bush has emboldened our enemies,,,, he is in fact a very dangerous lunitic that must be stopped,, because he is indeed not helping,, but hurting this country.

I'll walk you through it:

Back in the late '80s, Saddam decided it would be a good idea to invade Kuwait. We ddn't like that, so we went and said, "Stop it!" So Saddam said he would stop and agreed to certain conditions in the ceasfire armistice. One of those agreements was that he would let UN weapons inspectors in to check for wespons of mass destruction. He violated this agreement 17 times.

It is also important to not that Saddam used weapons of mass destruction at least three times in the past.

Fast forward to 1998: Then President Bill Clinton said that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, in no uncertain terms. Not that they might have them, not that they're developing them, but that they have them. He is backed up by Janet Reno and Madeline Allbright. Clinton then sayd, "well, I we should do something about this," and signed a document called the Iraqi Liberation Bill. This included a plan to set up a democracy in Iraq.

Forward to 2001: We've been content to kind of fight terrorism in a reactionary manner up until now. But then, on September eleventh, terrorists hijack 4 planes, flying two into the World Trade Center Twin Towers and one into the Pentagon, killing thousands, most of those civilians. The fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. This broke the mold for hijackings, as up until that point, one-hundred percent of all hijackings had ended on the tarmac of the hijackers choosing, usually with no casualties.

Saddam applauded.

So, President Bush said, "We have to get tough with the terrorists." He gave Saddam one last chance to comply with his ceasefire agreement, and he ordered an intelligence report on the nation of Iraq. That report said that Iraq had chemical and biological weapons (which are weapons of mass destruction) in no uncertain terms. Not they might have them; not they are developing them.

When Saddam refused to comply with the ceasefire that the United States giftwrapped for him, and then handed him on a silver platter, the liberation of Iraq began.

President Bush is doing plent to help our country. You just refuse to look passed your left-wing news outlets to see.

He is the President for the same reason many Presidents were before him: he was elected. Twice.

To find WMD
Saddam never left Iraq, Iraq had nothing to do with Bin Laden or 9/11.
You are suck in Iraq because you cant get out, you created a huge mess and if you leave it will get worse.
it is possibly the world's most incompetent military action

One word.
EGO.

Though Sadamm has no part in 9-11, it was the Perfect excuse to invade Iraq and finish off the job his father didn't (in his opinion) quite complete.

So he and his cronies invented this whole bunch of lies, ignored all the advice by the inspectors sent to Iraq and launched a war into Iraq. The inspection was carried out by a team led by Hans Blix with the authority of UN Security Council Resolution 1441. Hans Blix personally admonished Saddam for "cat and mouse" games and warned Iraq of "serious consequences" if it attempted to hinder or delay his mission, thus playing into the hands of Bush. Hans attracted a great deal of criticism from supporters of the invasion of Iraq. In an interview on BBC TV on 8 February 2004, Dr. Blix accused the U.S. and British governments of dramatizing the threat of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, in order to strengthen the case for the 2003 war against the regime of Saddam Hussein. Of course they never found WMD in Iraq.
Weapons of Mass Destruction my ar$e.

It wasn't much of a coalition force too.
Much of the burden rested on America and that was the 2nd foolhardy thing this administration did.

The 3rd mistake after Saddam was caught was to have him hanged.
This will come back and haunt Bush and worse, perhaps America in the future.

Last mistake, is to stay so freaking long in the war in Iraq.
The 2nd World War didn't even last that long and they had less advance weaponry.

Full of mistakes and doomed from the start.
All because this President was not truthful in the beginning.
His ego got the better of him.

1) To prevent nuclear proliferation to a dangerous nation.

2) Any leader who visits the U.S has diplomatic immunity. If Saddam was here (which he wasn't), as you say, he was likely visiting the U.N.

3) We remain to protect civilians from slaughter, and a larger gulf war between Sunni's and Shiites.

4) Bush has dramatically improved the economy from the one he inherited.

5) He is the President because he was twice elected.

You'll learn a lot of this in eighth grade civics though, be patient.
