Procrastination is not simply putting a task off to the future. It begins with some kind of negative feeling that distracts us from what we're doing. Procrastination is putting off doing something that you want to do now. Procrastination is the repression or suppression of an unpleasant feeling that results in temporally separating oneself from a task.

Procrastination could also be an indication of one's own knowledge of the event being procrastinated. What I mean by this is that if we have extensive knowledge of said event, this will create a sense of high confidence that we are able to complete said event in a short amount of time,(This reinterates my statements on other posts that knowledge is key) The events that threaten our self-confidence(and ultimately our self-esteem, which is high on the hierarchy of needs) are the events that we become determined or obsessed to master. We desire a sense of accomplishment and our mind knows that we will not feel this sense with things that we have mastered or nearly mastered.

Well, in my opinion procrastination begins with distractions, and those distractions make you think your word is dreadful and is not necessary. So you tend to order your priorities incorrectly. So you do the fun stuff first... then eventually you keep doing fun things and think it's OK.

,Waiting until the last minute to complete something has plenty to do with the feelings you have. Some people like that rush feeling when they are under pressure to complete something, so they wait until the pressure is on. They begin to enjoy that "high", so it becomes almost like an addition. There is a medical term for this feeling, but I can't recall it at this moment.

lethargy and distractions.
I agree with PEGGY S. Some people have the lure 4 the 'last
minute rush'. I've one such friend. He once tried it at an important exam & succeeded. Now, he's an addict to it. He is now facing board exams & suffering from it.

When you are torn between two compelling forces, you tend to procrastinate- to be or not to be.

The important question is not why , but when!

And strangely, it begins rather early.
